What Is the Draconic Sorcery?

The Draconic Sorcery is a Sorcerer subclass descended from a draconic bloodline. Draconic Resilience at Level 3 provides natural armor: base AC = 10 + Dexterity + Charisma, removing the need for Mage Armor. Elemental Affinity at Level 6 adds Charisma modifier to damage rolls of spells matching your dragon ancestor's damage type, and lets you spend 1 Sorcery Point to gain Resistance to that type. Dragon Wings at Level 11 grants a Bonus Action fly equal to your Speed, usable once per Long Rest.

Class Features

Progression Overview

LEVEL FEATURE
3 Draconic Resilience
6 Elemental Affinity
11 Dragon Wings

Level 3

Draconic Resilience While you aren't wearing armor, your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity modifier plus your Charisma modifier.

Additionally, your Hit Point maximum increases by your Sorcerer level.

Example: at 20 Dex (+5) and 20 Cha (+5), your unarmored AC is 20 — matching full plate with no armor or Dexterity check required.

Level 6

Elemental Affinity (Damage) When you cast a Sorcerer spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, add your Charisma modifier to that damage.

Elemental Affinity (Resistance) Additionally, you can spend 1 Sorcery Point to gain Resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry for 1 hour.

Level 11

Dragon Wings As a Bonus Action, you sprout spectral wings on your back that last for 10 minutes or until you retract them (no action required) or have the Incapacitated condition. During that time, you have a Fly Speed equal to your Speed. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Playstyle Notes

The Draconic Sorcery is the natural armor + elemental amplifier Sorcerer subclass. Draconic Resilience eliminates the need for Mage Armor, freeing the Sorcerer from one prepared spell and giving base AC scaling with both Dexterity and Charisma — the Sorcerer's primary ability. With 20 Charisma and 16 Dexterity, you have AC 18 without any armor, spell slots, or equipment.

Elemental Affinity at Level 6 adds Charisma modifier to all matching-damage spells. For a Fire dragon ancestor, every Fireball, Scorching Ray, and Fire Bolt gains +5 damage (at 20 Charisma) on top of normal dice. This applies to each instance of damage, so a Fireball hitting 5 creatures adds +5 to each creature's damage roll.

The Elemental Resistance option (1 Sorcery Point for 1 hour) is extremely cost-efficient: Fire Resistance for an entire hour costs one Sorcery Point, reducing the most common elemental damage type by half for a full dungeon wing.

Dragon Wings at Level 11 is the subclass capstone: 10 minutes of flight that recharges on Long Rest. Not the most impactful Level 11 feature compared to other subclasses' sustained benefits, but vertical mobility is powerful in BG3's multi-level dungeon design.
