What Is the Scion of the Three?

The Scion of the Three is a Rogue subclass dedicated to one of the Dead Three gods of death: Bane, Bhaal, or Myrkul. Bloodthirst at Level 3 provides a Reaction teleport and attack when a nearby creature becomes Bloodied. Dread Allegiance grants resistance to a specific damage type and a matching cantrip based on your chosen deity, using Intelligence as the spellcasting ability. Strike Fear at Level 9 unlocks a Cunning Strike: Terrify option and grants Advantage on attacks against Frightened targets.

Class Features

Progression Overview

LEVEL FEATURE
3 Bloodthirst, Dread Allegiance
9 Strike Fear

Level 3

Bloodthirst When an enemy you can see within 30 feet of yourself takes damage and is Bloodied after taking that damage but not killed outright, you can take a Reaction and teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 5 feet of that enemy. You can then make one melee attack. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Dread Allegiance You form a Dread Allegiance by choosing one of the Dead Three: Bane, Bhaal, or Myrkul. Your choice grants you Resistance to a specific damage type and the ability to cast an associated cantrip, using Intelligence as your spellcasting ability.

DEITY CANTRIP RESISTANCE
Bane Minor Illusion Psychic
Bhaal Blade Ward Poison
Myrkul Chill Touch Necrotic

Level 9

Strike Fear You gain the Cunning Strike: Terrify option. While a target is Frightened, you have Advantage on attack rolls against it.

Cunning Strike: Terrify — The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or it has the Frightened condition for 1 minute. At the end of each of its turns, the Frightened target repeats the save, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Playstyle Notes

The Scion of the Three is the Intelligence-based reactive striker Rogue subclass. Bloodthirst converts enemy HP thresholds into free teleport-attacks: every time an enemy enters the Bloodied state (below half HP) within 30 feet, you can teleport adjacent and melee attack as a Reaction. With Intelligence modifier uses per Long Rest, a high-Intelligence Scion (20 Int = +5 = 5 uses) can Bloodthirst multiple enemies in a single combat.

This creates a synergy loop: deal Sneak Attack damage → target becomes Bloodied → Bloodthirst Reaction to adjacent spot → attack again → potentially apply Cunning Strike conditions.

Dread Allegiance lets you choose your defensive and utility identity at Level 3. Bhaal (Poison Resistance + Blade Ward) leans defensive. Myrkul (Necrotic Resistance + Chill Touch) is more offensive — Chill Touch prevents healing and applies Necrotic damage. Bane (Psychic Resistance + Minor Illusion) leans utility.

Strike Fear at Level 9 creates a persistent Frightened control loop. Apply Terrify with Cunning Strike → target is Frightened (Disadvantage on attacks, can't move toward you) → Advantage on all your attacks against them. Combined with Bloodthirst (Reaction attack) and the Frightened Advantage, the Level 9 Scion delivers reliable damage without Cunning Action Hide.
