What Is the Sanguine Knight?

The Sanguine Knight is an Illrigger subclass built around blood magic as party support — converting burned seals into ally Temporary Hit Points, mass-healing as a Bonus Action, and punishing enemies that strike your protected allies.

Level 3 Features

Sutekh's Blessing

You gain proficiency in the Religion skill.

Exsanguinate

Whenever you burn one or more seals on a creature, you can choose an ally you can see within 30 feet of you. That ally gains Temporary Hit Points equal to the number rolled on one Seal damage die.

Exsanguinate makes every seal burn do double duty: damage to the target, Temporary HP to an ally. It also sets up Bloodstroke at Level 11.

Embolden Allies

As a Bonus Action, you restore a total number of Hit Points equal to five times your Illrigger level, divided however you choose between yourself and other creatures within 30 feet of you.

At Level 11 that is a 55-HP pool per use, distributed freely — a strong Bonus Action heal for a non-caster subclass.

Level 7 Features

Blood for Blood

Whenever an ally takes damage from an Interdicted creature, that creature takes Necrotic damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus.

Blood for Blood makes your marked target pay for every attack it lands on your party — no action or Reaction required.

Level 11 Features

Bloodstroke

When an ally who has Temporary Hit Points from your Exsanguinate feature is hit by a melee attack, the attacker takes 11 Necrotic damage.

Playstyle Summary

The Sanguine Knight is a support frontliner whose seals protect the party as much as they hurt the enemy.

Your combat identity:

  1. Baleful Interdict — mark the enemy that threatens your allies most; Blood for Blood punishes it automatically
  2. Exsanguinate — every seal burn also grants an ally Temporary HP
  3. Embolden Allies — a 5×level HP pool as a Bonus Action, split freely
  4. Blood for Blood at Level 7 — the marked target takes Proficiency Bonus Necrotic damage every time it damages an ally
  5. Bloodstroke at Level 11 — enemies that melee your Exsanguinate-protected allies take 11 Necrotic per hit
