What Is the Hollow Warden?

The Hollow Warden is a Ranger subclass that draws power from ancient eldritch horrors of the wild. Wrath of the Wild at Level 3 allows you to expend a Favored Enemy use to transform into a ghastly form — sprouting unnatural growths like bloody antlers or putrid fangs — for 1 minute. Hungering Might at Level 7 adds Wisdom modifier to Constitution saves and triggers a Hungering Might status when you take damage while Blooded in Wrath form. Rot and Violence at Level 11 adds Wisdom modifier damage to weapon attacks against Frightened targets and spreads a Menacing Aura on applying Frightened.

Class Features

Progression Overview

LEVEL FEATURE
3 Hollow Warden Spells, Wrath of the Wild
7 Hungering Might
11 Rot and Violence

Level 3

Hollow Warden Spells Your pact with eldritch powers ensures you always have certain spells prepared.

Level 3: Wrathful Smite
Level 5: Find Steed
Level 9: Spirit Guardians

Wrath of the Wild You draw power from the strange and ancient horrors of the land, causing you to sprout unnatural growths, such as bloody antlers or putrid fangs, or causing your shadow to lengthen or twist around you. As a Bonus Action, you can expend a use of Favored Enemy to transform into a ghastly form, gaining eldritch benefits for 1 minute or until you have the Incapacitated condition, die, or end the transformation (no action required).

Level 7

Hungering Might You gain a bonus to Constitution saving throws equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1). Additionally, when you take damage while Blooded and transformed with Wrath of the Wild, you trigger the Hungering Might effect.

Level 11

Rot and Violence Your dedication to wild eldritch beings alters you further. When transformed using Wrath of the Wild, you gain the following additional benefits:

  • Your weapon attacks deal bonus damage equal to your Wisdom modifier against Frightened targets.
  • When a creature becomes Frightened, you radiate a Menacing Aura.

Playstyle Notes

The Hollow Warden is the eldritch transformation Ranger subclass. Wrath of the Wild converts a Favored Enemy use into a transformation that lasts for a full minute of combat — trading one Hunter's Mark cast for a sustained combat buff form.

The Hollow Warden spell list leans into smite and summon territory: Wrathful Smite (Bonus Action smite that applies Frightened on a failed Wisdom save), Find Steed (mounted combat), and Spirit Guardians (a Cleric staple that creates a 15-foot radiant/necrotic damage zone). This creates an unusual Ranger that can function as a mounted frontliner.

Hungering Might at Level 7 adds Wisdom modifier to Constitution saves — one of the most important save types for maintaining Concentration spells (like Spirit Guardians). With high Wisdom, the Hollow Warden becomes extremely reliable at holding Concentration under damage.

Rot and Violence at Level 11 creates a Frightened damage synergy: apply Frightened (via Wrathful Smite or Spirit Guardians), then deal Wisdom modifier bonus damage to all Frightened targets. Combined with Menacing Aura spreading Frightened to nearby creatures, this creates an aura loop in dense combat.
