Bring over older data

葉育豪 edited this page Oct 16, 2026 · 1 revision

After moving to the desktop edition, changing computers or changing folders, the first time you open it and before any account exists, the sign-in screen shows "Have data from an older STOCKings? Bring it over" at the bottom.

  1. Pick the old folder (the one containing stock.db; for the portable edition picking the STOCKings folder also works). A folder kept in "Documents" when uninstalling is listed automatically.
  2. Click "Bring it over". It copies the database, backups and the mail settings, and the old folder is not touched.
  3. STOCKings closes and then opens again, and you sign in with your original account. If the database is encrypted, the same computer opens it with the same key automatically; on a new computer unlock it with the recovery key.

Once an account exists this feature cannot be used (so existing data is not overwritten); a folder on the network cannot be chosen, so copy it to this machine first. It must be done from the window STOCKings opened itself (for the launcher edition, the browser tab it opened automatically): a tab you open yourself does not show this option, to stop other programs on the computer from swapping your data while no account exists yet. If you do not see it, just reopen the program.
