Uninstall

If you installed with the installer, you can find STOCKings in Windows "Settings → Apps → Installed apps"; removing it from there asks "Delete STOCKings data too?": "No" (the default) removes only the program and leaves your data, so after reinstalling it carries on with the same data — the accounts you created before are still there and the earliest one is still the owner (a newly created account does not become the owner); "Yes" also deletes the data, local backups and the database key, so a reinstall starts fresh. The program folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\STOCKings) also has an "解除安裝 STOCKings" (Uninstall STOCKings) shortcut that does the same (the unins000.exe next to it is the uninstaller it points to). Running the installer again: for the same version it asks whether to reinstall (only the program is replaced, your data is not touched); for an older version it first warns that the older version may not open data the newer one has used, and defaults to not installing. On Linux installed with a .deb, run sudo apt remove stockings in a terminal and your data (~/.local/share/STOCKings) stays; the "Uninstall" in the app asks you to do it that way. Editions that work after unzipping (portable, launcher) are not installers, and you will not find them in Windows "Settings → Apps". To remove them, go to "Uninstall" under "Manage → Settings", enter your sign-in password and choose one way (the program is shared by the whole computer, so only the owner can uninstall; other accounts see who the owner is here):

Remove the program only, keep data (default) Remove everything
Program folder Deleted Deleted
The ledger (stock.db) Kept Deleted, cannot be undone
Database key Kept Deleted
Afterwards Unzip STOCKings again and carry on Nothing left
  • The desktop edition's data is in %APPDATA%\STOCKings ("Remove everything" also deletes a Stock Lab folder left by earlier versions), and when keeping data it stays there (the webview folder holding the remembered-account list and settings is deleted).
  • The launcher edition's data is in the program folder, and when keeping data it is first moved to "STOCKings data date" under "Documents"; to use it later, put what is inside back into the new program folder.
  • "Remove everything" deletes the data of every STOCKings account on this computer. If you want to keep a record, first export everything under "Import / Export".

After you click, STOCKings closes at once, and a few seconds later the files are cleaned up.

When STOCKings will not open: removing it by hand

  1. Delete the unzipped STOCKings folder.
  2. Desktop edition: type %APPDATA% in the File Explorer address bar and delete the STOCKings folder inside, and the Stock Lab folder left by earlier versions (if still there).
  3. Search the Start menu for "Credential Manager" → "Windows Credentials" → find database-key@STOCKings and tdcc-passwords@STOCKings (they may also be called STOCKings), and database-key@Stock Lab and tdcc-passwords@Stock Lab from earlier versions → remove them.

The uv installed on the launcher edition's first start is not removed: it is a general tool that other programs may also use. If you are sure you do not need it, delete uv.exe and uvx.exe in %USERPROFILE%\.local\bin, and the two folders %APPDATA%\uv and %LOCALAPPDATA%\uv (which hold the Python it downloaded and its cache).
