Settings Overview

How settings are stored

All settings live in a single JSON file, Settings.json, in your GokuTrap installation folder. See File-Locations.

  • Editing the file while GokuTrap is running will be overwritten when the app saves. Close GokuTrap first.
  • Deleting Settings.json resets every setting to its default. Roblox itself is not affected.
  • GokuTrap migrates older files forward automatically. Settings added in later versions appear with safe defaults rather than breaking the file.

Defaults that matter

These defaults are chosen to be conservative. Change them deliberately.

Setting Default Why it matters
Allow cookie access Off Required for any authenticated Roblox request. See Security-and-Privacy
Allow GokuTrap to manage Fast Flags On Turning this off stops every FastFlag change being applied
Confirm launches On Stops accidental closure of a running game
Check for updates On GokuTrap's own updater
Background updates Off Needs 3 GB free space; not recommended on slow networks
Use Discord Rich Presence On Needs the Discord desktop app
Enable activity tracking On Powers server location and activity context
All feature tools Off See Feature-Tools-Overview

Saving

  • The footer Save / Save and launch buttons save ordinary settings.
  • Feature tools under Saiyan & feature tools save themselves through their own Save & apply, Apply, Save or Save check options buttons, because they change live runtime state. See Feature-Tools-Overview#When changes take effect.
  • Settings edited in one tab are not lost when you switch tabs; they are written when you press Save.

Values that are corrected on load

GokuTrap normalises settings at startup rather than trusting the file. Out-of-range or nonsensical values are clamped or replaced:

  • Overlay size is clamped to 6–96 DIPs, opacity to 0.1–1.0, and offsets to ±2000 DIPs. Non-finite values (NaN, infinity) reset to defaults.
  • Update check interval is clamped to 1–168 hours.
  • Unknown enum values for Roblox priority and overlay style fall back to Windows default and Cross.
  • Sound pack slots with an unrecognised target, and account profiles without a positive Roblox user ID, are dropped.
  • Saved account validation status is always reset to "not validated" on startup. A stale label from a previous run is never trusted.
  • Avatar URLs are cleared unless they are https and end in .rbxcdn.com.
  • Null collections (SoundPacks, AccountProfiles, the catalog's value dictionaries) are recreated so an older or hand-edited file cannot cause a null reference.

Client settings versus launcher settings

Two different files are involved:

  • Settings.json — GokuTrap's own configuration. This page.
  • Roblox client settings — written by the FastFlag manager and the global settings manager into Roblox's own client settings file, based on what you configured. GokuTrap never stores Roblox's flags a second time in Settings.json; it stores the profile names and values you chose and regenerates the client file on each launch.
