History

[Jeff Alexander](Jeff Alexander)has a long and varied history of producing alcoholic drinks. He began winemaking at[David Bruce](David Bruce)and later at[Congress Springs](Congress Springs)in the late 1980s. In 1991 he helped establish the Los Gatos Brewing Company, and later returned to winemaking under his own label. Alexander Cellars. Following an internship at St. George Spirits, makers of local cult vodka Hangar 1 he moved on to gin production, under the name Sartacious Spirits. As St. George Spirits ran out of space he moved to a distillery back in Santa Cruz.

The winery produced Zinfandel and Chardonnay with fruit sourced from vineyards near Gilroy and around the Santa Cruz Mountains. It closed in 2009
