Overview

Artisanal Santa Cruz-based winery producing varietal, vineyard-designate, old-world style wines. "Ser" means "to express origin" in Spanish.

Winemaker

Nicole Walsh, founder and winemaker, is a surfer living seaside in Santa Cruz. Fluent in Spanish. Worked at Bonny Doon Vineyard with Randall Grahm from 2001-2020.

Started Ser Winery in 2012, reflecting on New Zealand experience with Pinot Noir.

Philosophy

Minimalist cellar approach: light extractions, natural ferments with indigenous yeasts, low sulfur additions, little or no fining or filtration. Single-varietal, single-vineyard wines that are pure expression of origin.

Production

Makes wine at Bargetto Winery in Soquel. Annual production 500-800 cases (previously reached 1,000 cases).
