LOUIS PELLIER
Louis Pellier (1817-1872) was a French immigrant nurseryman and vintner who co-founded the Pellier nursery and vineyard operation with his brother Pierre in 1854. Louis is credited with importing the first European Vinifera grape cuttings to Santa Clara Valley, establishing the germplasm foundation for the region's wine industry.
Born in France in 1817, Louis Pellier immigrated to California during the Gold Rush era. Rather than mining, he recognized the agricultural potential of Santa Clara Valley and established a nursery business with his brother.
