1910-1917: Brothers Phillip and John Bargetto, Italian immigrants from Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Piedmont, operated South Montebello Vineyard and Wine Company in San Francisco. Phillip had emigrated in 1891, John in 1909.
1917: The Bargetto brothers moved operations from San Francisco to Soquel.
1918: Purchased the current winery site in Soquel, establishing what would become one of the Santa Cruz Mountains' longest-operating wineries.
1919-1933: During Prohibition, made wine from the old barn for family and friends while primarily selling produce and apples to sustain the business.
December 1933: Post-Repeal, the brothers formally relaunched as Bargetto Winery, devoting full attention to the wine business.
1936: Phillip Bargetto passed away.
1940s-1950s: John's sons Ralph and Lawrence joined the family business, representing the second generation.
1960s-1970s: Lawrence Bargetto introduced modern winemaking technology including stainless steel fermentation and barrel aging programs, modernizing production while maintaining family traditions.
Bargetto is frequently described as the oldest continuously operating winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Regan Vineyard - 40-acre estate vineyard in Santa Cruz Mountains.
Produces Santa Cruz Mountains wines from estate Regan Vineyard including single-vineyard bottlings. Also produces La Vita (Italian varietal blend) and Chaucer's (honey mead and dessert wines since 1964).
Flagship: Single vineyard wines from Regan Vineyard. Also sources fruit from other regions for additional wines.
