JORY WINERY
Owner: Stillman Brown Winemaker: Stillman Brown
Background
If you think the Santa Cruz Mountains has had some interesting characters, meet Stillman Brown. Currently the winemaker at Red Zeppelin Wineryand Jungle Roomin Paso Robles, Stillman has made wine under a variety of labels including Jory, based out of Los Gatos. The Jory Winery labels are still in use sometimes, but the entity is no more. Stillman doesn't have any Santa Clara/Santa Cruz vineyards at present, but says he would be interested in a planting contract if he met the right grower.
Jory 1996 "Santa Clara" Chardonnay From Mead On Wine: From the Mt. Eden clone of Chardonnay, the original clone brought in from France by Paul Masson and transplanted to the mountain vineyards of legendary winemaker Martin Ray. Lean and crisply structured like a White Burgundy. Apple and melon fruit with some tropical back notes; nicely oaked. Dry (no sugar), but barrel sweet, a sort of impression of sweetness picked up from the oak casks
