History

Sherrill Cellars was founded in Woodside in 1973 in Woodside when Nat and Jan Sherrill's hobby "rapidly got larger". In 1977 they purchased 25 acres on Skyline Boulevard in Palo Alto, just south of Thomas Fogarty winery. The winery produced up to 2,000 cases annually of [[Chardonnay],[Cabernet Sauvignon](Cabernet Sauvignon),[Petite Sirah](Petite Sirah)andZinfandel. However the winery was not a huge financial success, so Nat Sherrill never gave up his day job as an engineer for the U.S. Geological Survey. In 1995 the Sherrill's retired and moved to Templeton, near San Luis Obispo.
