Thomas Fogarty took up home winemaking in the early 1970's. He planted his first grapes in 1978, and in 1981 established the winery that bears his name on Skyline Boulevard, overlooking Palo Alto and the South Bay from a height of 2,000 feet. The estate covers a total of 325 acres, though only 25 acres are planted; mostly to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with small amounts of Merlot and Sangiovese.
