Nexus Mods Integration

GameAtlas 2.4 includes a testing integration between Nexus Mods and the Linux managed mod library.

GameAtlas is an independent third-party application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nexus Mods.

Testing account connection

During application review and development, connect with a personal Nexus Mods API key from the Nexus API settings page.

  • The key remains only in GameAtlas process memory.
  • It is sent directly to the Nexus Mods API over HTTPS.
  • It is cleared when you disconnect or exit.
  • It is not written to disk or intentionally included in logs or error messages.

The personal-key interface is for testing. An approved public connection flow will replace it after Nexus application registration.

Metadata lookup

Paste a Nexus mod-page URL to view supported metadata and the file catalog. GameAtlas can record the Nexus domain, mod ID, file ID, version, author, source page, category, and upload time with an installed managed mod.

Metadata does not replace the mod author's installation instructions.

Mod Manager Download links

The Linux package registers the nxm:// scheme. Selecting Mod Manager Download on Nexus can pass the requested game domain, mod ID, and file ID to GameAtlas.

An NXM link can contain short-lived download credentials. The complete link remains in memory only until the download succeeds, you dismiss it, or GameAtlas exits. Confirm the destination game before continuing because a Nexus domain does not always exactly match a locally installed title.

Downloads

Eligible ZIP, RAR, and 7z files are downloaded directly from a Nexus-provided HTTPS mirror into the selected game's VortexMods staging folder.

GameAtlas:

  • Accepts only HTTPS mirror URLs.
  • Limits API response and archive sizes.
  • Verifies that downloaded bytes match the selected archive type.
  • Uses temporary files until a download is complete.
  • Removes invalid or incomplete temporary downloads.
  • Applies the Linux mod manager's extraction safety checks before preview.
  • Never automatically executes downloaded installers or scripts.

Premium users can resolve eligible downloads through their connected account. A free-account download normally requires a fresh authenticated Mod Manager Download link created by the same Nexus account.

Update detection and upgrades

When a managed mod has Nexus provenance, GameAtlas can compare the installed Nexus file with the current catalog. Newer compatible candidates are presented for review rather than installed silently.

The guided action downloads and prepares the candidate, then lets you inspect its filename, category, version, and payload before applying a transactional upgrade.

GameAtlas does not assume every newer upload is the same mod variant.

API quota

The account panel displays Nexus hourly and daily remaining requests when reported by the API.

  • Automatic update checks pause when the remaining quota is low.
  • Requests are disabled when a known quota reaches zero.
  • Reset information is shown when available.
  • Select Refresh after the reset to resume.

GameAtlas groups update checks by unique Nexus mod to avoid unnecessary duplicate requests.

Errors

Actionable errors distinguish invalid or revoked keys, denied resources, expired download links, missing files, exhausted quota, network failures, server failures, unsafe mirrors, oversized responses, and invalid archive content.

Malformed or expired pending NXM links are discarded rather than repeatedly blocking later requests.

Not supported

  • FOMOD installers.
  • Nexus Collections.
  • Silent or unattended installation.
  • Automatic selection among unrelated optional variants.
  • Windows managed deployment; use the official Vortex application on Windows.
