Vortex and GameAtlas

Vortex is Nexus Mods' Windows-focused mod manager. GameAtlas handles it differently on Windows and Linux.

Windows

On Windows, GameAtlas detects whether a selected title has a built-in or downloadable Vortex extension and links to the relevant resource when available.

GameAtlas does not duplicate the official Vortex deployment workflow on Windows. Use Vortex for installing, enabling, disabling, sorting, and updating supported Windows mods.

Detection can use the game title, executable, launcher metadata, aliases, and the public Vortex extension manifest. A detected extension does not guarantee support for every store edition or installation layout.

Linux

GameAtlas does not automate running Vortex through Wine or Proton. Instead, version 2.4 provides its own Linux-only managed mod library for local deployment.

The Linux manager supports staged folders and archives, deployment previews, managed enable/disable state, priority and conflict handling, profiles, purge/redeploy, verification, repair, backups, metadata, and transactional upgrades.

See Linux Mod Manager.

Nexus Mods

The Linux manager can connect to Nexus Mods during testing for:

  • Mod metadata and file catalogs.
  • nxm:// Mod Manager Download links.
  • Eligible ZIP, RAR, and 7z downloads.
  • Provenance and installed-file tracking.
  • Update detection and guided upgrades.

See Nexus Mods Integration.

Extension matching

Vortex extension detection is game-specific. A title may have built-in support, a separately distributed community extension, partial support, or no extension.

If a match appears incorrect, include the GameAtlas version, operating system, game title, launcher, executable, edition, and expected extension in a bug report.

Related projects

Vortex support, RenoDX availability, and Linux managed-mod compatibility are separate findings. A game can support any combination of them.
