FAQ and troubleshooting
Tip
First look when something is wrong: /utl-status in the console and the Alerts tab in the
UTL Manager. Most problems are a wrong network, a missing role or a train
length that does not fit.
- Is the train free? It must stop at a stop with the Depot role, be empty and in automatic mode. The manager's “Depots” tab then shows it as “Waiting in depot”.
- Is the network right? Depot, provider and requester need the same network name (or a network link).
- Is there a demand? In the requester's station window, the good must be shown in red under “Current”. If not: is the request threshold reached? Is the target chest wired? Is the target stock perhaps already there?
- Is there an offer? At the provider the good must be shown in green. If not: is the chest wired to the stop (or to the combinator input)? Is the provide threshold reached?
- Does the train length fit? Check min./max. train length at provider and requester. You then get the alert “the free trains … do not fit” after 5 minutes.
- Is the train low on fuel? If the network has a UTL fuel station, UTL sends low trains to refuel first; if the fuel station cannot be reached or its length does not fit, the train waits.
Probably one is enough: the target stock is a stock, not an order. If one train holds the whole
demand, only one goes. For several trains at once, set a higher target stock. Or there are no more free
trains – /utl-status shows “Trains in depot”.
- Does the stop have the Depot role? The name alone is not enough.
- Is the train empty and in automatic mode? A train with cargo goes to a cleanup first.
- Does its length fit provider and requester?
- Is it a fluid train while items are needed (or the other way round)?
Is there a fuel station in the same network whose train length fits and that is reachable? Is “Refuel below (%)” not set to 0?
It waits until the ordered amount is loaded. If the chest ran empty (goods used elsewhere), it leaves after the loading inactivity (default 30 s) with what it has – unless you set “cargo and inactivity” or set inactivity to 0. See How trains run.
The target chest is full. After the unloading inactivity the train takes the rest to a cleanup. Bigger chests or a smaller target stock help.
UTL puts a waypoint in front of every stop so the train goes to exactly the right one – even with the same names. If it still goes elsewhere, an interrupt in its schedule has probably taken over.
Alert “… has leftover …, but no fitting cleanup is free or reachable”: build a cleanup in the same network that accepts this good (section “Cleanup: what may come here”), or empty a full cleanup.
The upgrades need research: “UTL: Loading control” for wagon filters and the job output, “UTL: Network links I–III” for partners. Or turn off the map setting “UTL features need research”.
On Linux, IBus sometimes grabs it. Use Ctrl + Alt + U or the locomotive button in the shortcut bar instead.
Yes. Existing stations get a UTL station combinator next to them, or you build a UTL train stop over the old one. Trains get a schedule with only the depot. Keep a backup first.
Yes, but UTL train stops and combinators then disappear with their settings, and trains lose their temporary stops. Keep a backup first.
Please use the discussion on the mod portal,
ideally with the save, the mod list and what you did. The file factorio-current.log helps
as well; with the map setting “Debug log”, UTL writes extra messages into it.
