Getting started

Install Chroma Studio on your client, then press C in a world to open it.

Install

Use Minecraft Java 26.3 and the jar for your loader. Put it in the instance's mods folder. Minecraft 26.3 uses Java 25.

Loader What you need
Fabric Fabric Loader 0.18.4 or newer, and Fabric API 0.160.6 for 26.3 or newer
NeoForge NeoForge 26.3.0.0-beta or newer. Chroma Studio has no other required mod on NeoForge.

Use versions of every dependency made for Minecraft 26.3. You don't need to install Chroma Studio on the server.

Mod Menu is optional on Fabric. It adds a way to open the settings from the mod list. Litematica and its dependencies are optional for schematic placements. Forgematica provides that integration on NeoForge. Recipe viewers are optional for recipe lookup.

The window

Join a world and press C. Select Match, Gradient, Palettes or Explore in the title bar. The window reopens on the last tab you used in this session. The Start tab setting chooses the first one.

Drag an empty part of the title bar to move the window. Drag an edge or corner to resize it. The cursor turns into the matching arrow over each: sideways, up and down, or diagonal at a corner. Its smallest size is 400 by 220 GUI pixels. If the game's GUI is smaller than 427 by 240, the window fills the screen.

The square button in the title bar switches fullscreen on and off. Fullscreen uses Minecraft's blurred background on the Default window colour, and the window colour on the others. Windowed, the world stays visible around the window. The game keeps running in both modes.

The pin button closes the screen and keeps drawing the current tab while you play. A pinned tab takes no input. Press C to bring it back. Settings lets you change its opacity.

Escape closes an open dialog or panel first. Press it again to close the window. The close button in the title bar closes the window directly.

Settings and controls

The cog at the top-right of the screen opens Settings, where you can search the options, undo changes and pick the window's colour. On Fabric, Mod Menu also opens them. On NeoForge, use the mod list's Config button.

Left-click an option button to step forward. Right-click steps backward. The mouse wheel over one does the same: down for forward, up for backward. Number fields have increase and decrease controls, and the wheel over a field changes its value. This works in every tab, in More… and in the dialogs. The settings list and a palette's entries are the exceptions: there the wheel scrolls, and steps a number only after you click into it.

Hover a greyed-out control to read why it can't be used. Giving blocks, dyeing and filling the hotbar need creative mode or operator rights. In singleplayer survival, enable cheats for operator commands.
