Keys and commands

Chroma's keys and commands run on your client, so they work on servers without the mod.

Keys

Action Default What it does
Open Chroma Studio C Opens the window, brings back a pinned tab, or closes the open window
Pick a block's colour X Samples the block face and copies its hex. Shift and X also opens Match. During Capture, it picks corners.
Pin the window Unbound Pins the window as a read-only tab, or removes an already pinned one
Toggle fullscreen window Unbound Switches between windowed and fullscreen while Chroma is open
Capture a palette Unbound Starts Capture. While armed, picks a corner.
Recipe key R Looks up the hovered Match result's recipe

The first five are under Options → Controls → Key Binds → Chroma Studio. Key binds… in Chroma's settings opens that screen.

Recipe key is separate, under Integrations in Settings. Click it, then press a key. Escape leaves it unbound.

Escape closes a dialog or panel before the window. During screen picking or world capture it cancels that action.

Match

/chroma <hex>
/chroma <block id>

Examples are /chroma #ff8800, /chroma #f80 and /chroma oak_planks. Hex accepts three or six digits, with or without #. Three digits expand to six. Block ids can omit minecraft:. A registered block id wins over a hex-like name without #.

The command opens Match. It accepts a block id, rather than a block-state expression. Use a palette share string for states in an export.

Capture

/chroma capture x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2

Give two corners as six absolute integers. ~ and ^ coordinates aren't supported. It counts loaded blocks in the box and makes a palette. See Palettes.

Export and place

/chroma export <share string> [layout] [format] [place]
/chroma place <file name>
Option Accepted words
Layout strip, wall, patch_grid, noise_clusters, height_gradient, dither
Format litematic, nbt
Placement place

Hyphens can replace underscores in layout names. Options ignore case. Use each at most once, after the share string. You can change their order. Unknown options after a quoted share string produce an error. With an unquoted named palette, an unrecognised word can become part of the name. Quote named palettes when you want mistyped options to be caught.

With no options, export uses Layout in Settings, .litematic, the configured patch size and gap, and a new arrangement for mixed walls. Wall height is 3. Mixed walls are 16 by 9. Use the dialog for other dimensions.

Unquoted palette names can have spaces. If a name ends in a layout, format or place, put the whole share string in double quotes:

/chroma export "chroma1:stone,andesite/My wall" patch_grid nbt
/chroma export "chroma1:stone,andesite/My place" strip litematic place

Place loads a file from the export folder into Litematica or Forgematica, with or without the extension. It creates a schematic placement, rather than world blocks. Export and Litematica explains the folder, naming and origin.

Debug the index

/chroma debug <block id>

This prints the block's indexed states, textures, colours, tint flags, coverage and texture badges to local chat and the game log. It can help explain a surprising match when reporting a problem.
