Resource packs and modded blocks
Chroma reads the loaded block textures, so resource packs and modded blocks can change its matches.
Normal matching covers blocks with items in creative tabs other than Operator Utilities, plus water and lava. Modded blocks join automatically. Before you enter a world, creative tabs aren't ready, so the index temporarily treats every block with an item as listed.
Technical blocks adds blocks outside those ordinary tabs. Creative-only blocks is a separate, hand-kept classification of blocks survival players can't obtain or place as those states. It includes bedrock, reinforced deepslate, end portal frames, spawners, trial spawners, vaults, petrified oak slabs and infested blocks. It isn't a check of each block's loot table.
Most results use one row per block, choosing its closest retained state. List states separately changes that. States that use the same face textures share an entry. States per block starts at eight and allows 1 to 8, so the index doesn't cover every possible state variation.
Blocks drawn without a block model use their particle texture as a guess. Match leaves them out unless Chests and banners is on. Bells also need that filter because their model shows only the support frame. Signs and beds have block models and match normally. Gradient excludes blocks whose model draws nothing and all blocks covered by Chests and banners, including bells.
Custom tint code or unusual models can produce approximate colours. If a texture can't be read, the index can fall back to the block's map colour. Material sets use block-id naming rules, so a custom family can be incomplete.
The index builds in the background after a resource reload. Match shows progress. The last finished index continues to answer while the next one builds. Rebuild on reload is on by default. Turning it off keeps the existing index during later reloads.
Cached texture pixels live in <game>/config/chromastudio/cache/, or your Cache folder override. The key includes selected pack ids, mod versions and animated averaging. Matching statistics are calculated again from those pixels.
Changing the selected packs rebuilds the index. Editing a pack in place can leave the old cached pixels because its id hasn't changed. Open Settings and press Refresh beside Reset in the Block index group. It rebuilds in the background and reads every texture afresh, bypassing the cache.
F3+T reloads Minecraft's resources and rebuilds Chroma's index when Rebuild on reload is on. It doesn't by itself guarantee a new read of a pack edited under the same id.
Hover a Match result and press R to look up its recipe. Look up a block's recipe, under Chroma Studio in the game's key binds, can change that key.
JEI and REI are optional. Use their releases and dependencies for your Minecraft line. Their integrations are the same on every line. Chroma tries ready JEI first, then REI. EMI lookup is untested on every supported line.
Without a viewer, Match tells you to install one. The rest of the mod works without it.
