Chroma estimates a block's colour from textures, so some matches and exports need a check in the game.
- X reads indexed, unshaded texture colour. It doesn't sample actual light or shaders. Use Screen for the rendered appearance.
- All biomes shows tint ranges but matches where you stand. It doesn't choose the best biome for each candidate.
- Chests, banners, shulker boxes and heads have no drawing block model. Their indexed colour is a particle-texture guess. They start excluded from Match, and Gradient never uses them.
- Bells also start excluded by Chests and banners. Their model shows only the support frame, so its colour doesn't represent the actual bell. Gradient leaves bells out too.
- The texture badge measures colour spread. Wool, gravel and granite can look different from their Grainy label.
- The index keeps at most eight texture-distinct states per block. Very complex state sets can fall back to the default state. Larger pack textures reduce to 16 by 16 for matching.
- A pack edited in place can retain stale cached pixels. Press Refresh in Settings' Block index group to read the textures afresh. See Resource packs and modded blocks.
- Generate and Image use Settings' default filters, rather than the Match session's extra filters. Gradient keeps to the Match tab's filters. Palettes and Gradient explain those choices.
- Capture reads loaded chunks only. Its box can contain at most 4,000,000 blocks. Unloaded areas don't count.
- Image ignores pixels less than half opaque. It samples large images before extracting colours.
- Schematics are upright and one block deep, with no side beyond 256. Entries beyond a layout's capacity are left out and reported. Vanilla structure blocks load only up to 48 along a side.
- Exports keep block states but don't include entities or block-entity contents. An unknown block or invalid state is left out. Vanilla
.nbtgaps leave existing world blocks alone. - Hotbar fill uses one item per entry. It doesn't encode placed-state properties or weights into those items. Overflow has space for one 27-entry shulker box and needs a free inventory slot.
- The Dye panel can't discover extra dyeable items from server recipes. It has the six vanilla targets plus the
minecraft:dyeabletag's items. - Material sets follow names and a table of exceptions. They don't guarantee every mod's related blocks will group together.
- EMI lookup exists but wasn't tested with an EMI release for Minecraft 26.3. JEI and REI are the tested recipe integrations.
- The nine translations beyond English were generated by a program. Corrections are welcome.
Chroma has no server component, accounts, structure import or direct world placement. WorldEdit's Send action asks the server to run the command as chat. Litematica placement loads a schematic for that mod's tools. Those integrations handle any later changes to blocks.
Report a problem with the loader, mod version, resource packs and steps to reproduce it. /chroma debug <block id> can provide the indexed textures and colours for a surprising result.
