Settings

Settings controls the window, matching defaults, index and palette tools.

Open it with the cog at the top-right of the Chroma screen, from Mod Menu on Fabric, or from the mod list's Config button on NeoForge.

The search bar at the top filters the rows as you type. It looks in each setting's name and its tooltip, and every word has to be there. A group's heading stays while any of its rows match. Escape clears the search, and closes the screen when there is nothing to clear.

Each group has Undo and Reset. Reset puts the group back to its defaults. Undo puts it back to what it was when you opened the screen, and is greyed while nothing in the group has changed. Reset all and Undo all at the bottom do the same for every setting. Reset all asks first. Neither touches Minecraft's key binds.

Changes apply straight away and save when the settings screen closes. Right-click an option to step backward. In this scrolling list the wheel always scrolls. Click into a number first to change it with the wheel.

Key binds… opens Minecraft's key binding screen at Chroma Studio. Keys and commands lists the defaults.

Keys and window

Setting Default What it does
Remember the window On Restores position, size and mode.
Start tab Match First tab opened in a session. Later openings use the last tab.
Pinned window opacity 0.8 Opacity from 0.2 to 1.
Window colour Default Default, Warm, Vanilla, Dark or Custom. Colours the window, a pinned tab and this screen.
Custom colour #243447 The colour Custom builds on. Click it to pick one. Greyed unless Window colour is Custom.

The window also saves its position, width, height and fullscreen mode without separate rows. Their defaults are centred, 400 by 220 GUI pixels and windowed. Reset and Undo for Keys and window cover those too.

Window colour

Colour Looks like
Default Dark blue-grey with light text.
Warm Dark brown with light text.
Vanilla The inventory's light grey, #C6C6C6, with its darker border and dark text.
Dark Mid grey, #535353, with light text.
Custom Built from your own colour.

Every other colour in the window comes from the one base colour: the title bar, panels, rows, borders and muted text. Text is near-black on a light colour and near-white on a dark one, so it stays readable whatever you pick. Buttons, text fields and tooltips are Minecraft's own and keep their look.

The Custom colour row opens a small picker with a colour square, a hue bar and Hex, RGB and HSL fields. The window and the settings screen change as you pick. A fullscreen window keeps Minecraft's blurred backdrop on Default and fills with the window colour on the others.

Matching

Setting Default What it does
Face Side Any, Top, Side, Bottom, North, South, West or East. See Match.
Shading Off Applies directional face darkening to Match candidates.
Colour difference OKLab OKLab, CIEDE2000, CIE76, sRGB or Map colour.
Results 12 Number of results, from 3 to 60.
Viewing distance (blocks) 24 1 to 192 blocks. 192 means Far.
Full cubes only Off Starts Match with full cubes only. Generate and Image also use it.
Solid blocks only Off Starts Match with collidable blocks only. Generate and Image also use it.
Opaque blocks only Off Starts Match with opaque blocks only. Generate and Image also use it.
Survival blocks only Off Leaves out the hand-kept creative-only list. Palette generation and Gradient use it too.
Show ΔE On Shows numerical colour difference in Match results.

Block index

Refresh, beside Reset in this group, rebuilds the index in the background and reads every texture afresh. Use it after editing a loaded resource pack's files, since its cache key may stay the same. Reset restores the group's settings instead.

Setting Default What it does
Technical blocks Off Includes blocks outside the ordinary creative tabs.
List states separately Off Shows one result per indexed state instead of one per block.
States per block 8 Maximum retained texture-distinct states per block, from 1 to 8. Applies on the next build.
Average animated textures On Averages animation frames by duration. Off uses the first. Applies on the next build.
Cache folder Empty Uses config/chromastudio/cache/ when empty. Use an absolute custom path. A relative cache path starts in the game process's working folder.
Rebuild on reload On Rebuilds on resource reload. With it off, an already finished index stays as it was.

Biome

Setting Default What it does
Biome Where you stand Where you stand, Chosen or All biomes. All still matches your local tint and adds ranges in Match.
Chosen biome minecraft:plains Registry id for Chosen. The Match picker can search modded biomes too.

Setting Default What it does
Steps 9 Starting number of steps, from 2 to 32.
Easing Smooth Linear, Smooth, Ease in or Ease out.
Hue arc Shortest Shortest or Longest route around the hue wheel.
Match texture spread Off Starts Gradient with its Spread preference on.

The Gradient tab keeps its stops and choices during the session. These are its starting defaults, rather than a replacement for edits already made in the tab.

Palettes

Setting Default What it does
Generated colours 6 Generated colours, from 2 to 32.
Captured blocks 12 Most common captured states to keep, from 1 to 64.
Shulker boxes in a hotbar fill Never Where Hotbar fill puts the blocks past the ninth: Never, When full or Always.

Export folder Empty Uses Litematica's folder when available, otherwise <game>/schematics/. A relative override starts in the game folder.
Layout Strip Strip, Wall, Patch grid, Noise clusters, Height gradient or Random dither.
Patch size 3 Square side in Patch grid, from 1 to 16 blocks.
Gap between blocks Off One-block gap between entries. It does not apply to mixed walls.

Tooltips and HUD

Setting Default What it does
Item tooltips Hold Shift Hold Shift, Always or Never.
Tooltip: swatch On Shows the colour swatch.
Tooltip: hex On Shows the hex code.
Tooltip: kind On Shows the block kind.
Tooltip: texture On Shows Flat, Grainy or Busy.
Tooltip: ΔE On Shows difference from the current Match target.
Readout time (seconds) 4 Eyedropper readout duration, from 1 to 30 seconds.

These lines appear on indexed block items in inventory tooltips. They use the current Match target, biome and viewing distance.

Integrations

Setting Default What it does
Recipe key R Click and press a key to bind recipe lookup. Escape unbinds it.
Litematica placement Where you look Where you look or Where you stand. Looking falls back to your position when no block is in reach.

The file

Settings save in <game>/config/chromastudio/settings.json. Missing, mistyped or out-of-range values use their defaults. Invalid text entered on the screen turns red and leaves the setting unchanged.
