Hellspeaker

What Is the Hellspeaker?

The Hellspeaker is an Illrigger subclass built around the Charmed condition. Its seals charm the creatures they mark, its attacks against Charmed creatures gain Advantage and upgrade to Critical Hits, and its Level 11 feature weakens Interdicted creatures' mental saving throws.

Class Features

Progression Overview

LEVEL FEATURE
3 Moloch's Blessing, Charm Enemy, Honey-Sweet Blades
7 Intransigent
11 Incontrovertible

Level 3 Features

Moloch's Blessing

You gain Expertise in Persuasion and Deception checks.

Both skills are fueled by Charisma — every out-of-combat negotiation, interrogation, or deception benefits without splitting stat investment.

Charm Enemy

When you use your Bonus Action to place a seal on a creature, you can Charm it for 10 turns.

Charm Enemy converts Baleful Interdict into a Charm setup: the seal you were placing anyway now also neutralizes the target. A Charmed creature can't attack you, and it becomes the ideal target for Honey-Sweet Blades.

Honey-Sweet Blades

When you make a weapon attack against a Charmed creature, you can gain Advantage on the attack roll (no action required). If the attack hits, it becomes a Critical Hit.

The full loop: place a seal (Bonus Action) → the target is Charmed → attack it with Advantage → any hit is a guaranteed Critical. This pairs directly with burning seals for damage, since Critical Hits double the seal damage dice as well.

Level 7 Features

Intransigent

You are immune to the Charmed condition. When you make a Charisma check, you can expend a seal to treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10. The same floor applies to your Charisma saving throws.

Intransigent makes the Hellspeaker immune to the condition it inflicts, and puts a reliability floor under its Charisma-based checks and saves.

Level 11 Features

Incontrovertible

Interdicted creatures have Disadvantage on Wisdom and Charisma saving throws for 2 turns.

Incontrovertible makes your seals a debuff platform for the whole party: any spellcaster targeting Wisdom or Charisma saves (Hold Person, Fear, Command, Banishment) gets Disadvantage on the marked target for free.

Playstyle Summary

The Hellspeaker is a Charm-loop striker that neutralizes a priority target and then executes it with guaranteed Critical Hits.

Your combat identity:

  1. Baleful Interdict + Charm Enemy — place a seal as a Bonus Action; the target is Charmed for 10 turns
  2. Honey-Sweet Blades — attack the Charmed target with Advantage; hits become Critical Hits
  3. Burn seals on the Critical — seal damage dice benefit from the Critical Hit as well
  4. Intransigent at Level 7 — you cannot be Charmed back, and your Charisma checks and saves have a floor of 10
  5. Incontrovertible at Level 11 — Interdicted creatures take Disadvantage on Wisdom and Charisma saves; coordinate with party casters
