Subclass Illrigger Shadowmaster
The Shadowmaster is an Illrigger subclass built around stealth, shadow control, and surgical elimination. Where other Illriggers confront their enemies with authority or curses, the Shadowmaster erases them. No warnings. No declarations. Already behind you, already done, already gone — and you won't understand what happened until it's far too late.
The Shadowmaster's Interdict becomes a Shadow Mark — a designation that strips targets of their ability to hide, flee, or escape. Marked for death means exactly that.
| LEVEL | FEATURE |
|---|---|
| 3 | Marked for Death, Strike from the Dark, No Escape |
| 7 | Hell's Assassin |
| 11 | Umbral Killer |
When you apply your Interdict, you also Shadow-Mark the target. Shadow-Marked creatures:
- Cannot benefit from invisibility or Hiding
- Allies who attack them deal additional damage equal to your Charisma modifier
Marked for Death transforms the Illrigger's Interdict into a full denial package. The target cannot go invisible, cannot hide, and cannot break line-of-sight — meaning your advantage over them is permanent for the fight's duration. The party-wide damage bonus makes Shadow Mark a force multiplier: every ally hitting the marked target deals extra damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
When you attack a creature that cannot see you, or that is Frightened, you deal extra necrotic damage equal to 2d6 + your Charisma modifier.
Strike from the Dark rewards attacking from stealth or exploiting the Frightened condition. Given that the Shadowmaster can go invisible via Hell's Assassin at Level 7, this bonus becomes consistently available in the endgame — every attack from invisibility triggers 2d6 + Charisma in bonus necrotic damage. Against Frightened targets (from other party effects), it activates without requiring stealth.
Shadow-Marked creatures:
- Cannot use the Dash or Disengage action
- If they attempt to teleport, they must first succeed on a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC or the teleportation fails
No Escape is a complete mobility lockdown. Your marked target cannot run, cannot disengage safely, and cannot teleport without beating your save DC. Combined with Marked for Death's stealth denial, the Shadow Mark is a total information and mobility cage — the target fights where you choose, on your terms, until it dies.
You can cast Invisibility on yourself as a Bonus Action, without expending a spell slot, a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. The invisibility lasts until you attack or cast a spell.
Hell's Assassin gives the Shadowmaster repeatable, cost-free invisibility that fires from a Bonus Action — meaning you can go invisible mid-turn and attack from stealth on the same turn. This activates Strike from the Dark on every subsequent attack. At a Charisma modifier of 4–5, you can go invisible four or five times per rest.
You can designate a Shadow-Marked target as Condemned. For the next minute:
- Your attacks against them automatically score a Critical Hit if they hit
- The target cannot regain hit points from any source
Umbral Killer is the capstone execution tool. Guaranteed crits on every hit means every damage roll fires at double dice — combined with healing denial, a Condemned creature cannot be saved by allies, potions, or regeneration. The target is on a countdown. One minute. Every attack is a crit. No healing. The Shadow Mark's death sentence delivered.
The Shadowmaster is a single-target elimination specialist that locks down its mark completely before executing it from the shadows.
Your combat identity:
- Marked for Death — Interdict becomes Shadow Mark; target cannot hide, go invisible, or flee
- No Escape — target cannot Dash, Disengage, or teleport; it fights where you want it to die
- Strike from the Dark — attack from stealth or against Frightened targets for 2d6 + Charisma bonus necrotic
- Hell's Assassin at Level 7 — go invisible as a Bonus Action up to Charisma-modifier times per rest
- Umbral Killer at Level 11 — declare a target Condemned; guaranteed crits + no healing for one minute
The Shadowmaster doesn't chase its targets. It marks them — and waits for them to understand there's no way out.
