Subclass Sorcerer Aberrant Sorcery
![]()
The Aberrant Sorcery is a psionic Sorcerer subclass. Psionic Spells at Level 3 provides an always-prepared list of mind-affecting spells. Psionic Sorcery at Level 6 allows you to cast Psionic Spells by spending Sorcery Points instead of spell slots — and those casts have no Verbal or Somatic components, making them invisible to observers. Psychic Defenses grants Resistance to Psychic damage and immunity to Charmed and Frightened conditions.
| LEVEL | FEATURE |
|---|---|
| 3 | Psionic Spells |
| 6 | Psionic Sorcery, Psychic Defenses |
Psionic Spells When you reach certain Sorcerer levels, you always have the listed spells prepared. These spells don't count against your Sorcerer spells known limit.
| SORCERER LEVEL | SPELLS ADDED |
|---|---|
| 3 | Mind Sliver, Arms of Hadar, Dissonant Whispers, Calm Emotions, Detect Thoughts |
| 5 | Hunger of Hadar |
| 7 | Evard's Black Tentacles |
| 9 | Telekinesis |
Psionic Sorcery When you cast any level 1+ spell from your Psionic Spells feature, you can cast it by expending a spell slot as normal or by spending a number of Sorcery Points equal to the spell's level. If you cast the spell using Sorcery Points, it requires no Verbal or Somatic components, and it requires no Material components unless they are consumed by the spell or have a cost specified in it.
Psychic Defenses You have Resistance to Psychic damage. Moreover, you are immune to the Charmed and Frightened conditions.
The Aberrant Sorcery is the silent caster Sorcerer subclass. Psionic Sorcery at Level 6 converts the Psionic Spells list into a no-component casting system — no Verbal, no Somatic. Combined with Subtle Metamagic, any of these spells becomes completely impossible to detect or counter with Counterspell (which requires the caster to perceive the spell being cast).
The Sorcery Point casting cost equals spell level: a Level 3 spell costs 3 Sorcery Points. This is a premium over normal slot conversion, but the component-free property and access to powerful mind-affecting spells (Dissonant Whispers, Hunger of Hadar, Detect Thoughts) makes it worth the cost for stealth casting scenarios.
Psychic Defenses at Level 6 fills two immunities simultaneously: Charmed and Frightened are two of the most disabling conditions, and Psychic Resistance reduces the most common mental-attack damage type. The combined immunity to Charmed and Frightened, plus Psychic Resistance, makes the Aberrant Sorcerer resilient against mental-attack effects.
The silent casting mechanic has particular value in BG3's social and stealth encounters: Psionic Sorcery lets you affect NPC minds without them seeing you cast.
