Network combinator

Note

New in 0.0.9. Needs the research "UTL: Network combinator" (after "UTL: Loading control", with chemical science).

The UTL network combinator outputs the state of a UTL network as signals. It controls nothing itself – what the signals do (lamp, display, cargo landing pad …) is up to your own wiring.

Network combinator window, mode Demand (German UI)

Settings

Click the combinator to open its window:

Field Effect
Network which network it reads – on its surface and for its team
Include linked networks also count linked networks (star), see Networks
Output one of the four modes below
Count goods on the way stock also counts goods currently in trains on their way to requesters

At the bottom the window shows what it currently outputs.

The four modes

Mode Signals
Stock per good, what providers in the network offer (storages: what is above the minimum)
Storage stock per good, what is stored in the network's storage stations
Shortage per good, what requesters need and nobody in the network offers
Trains UTL signals, see below

In Trains mode, the trains whose home depot is in this network are counted:

Signal Meaning
UTL: Trains in total all trains of the network
UTL: Trains free in depot waiting for a job
UTL: Trains on the way running a job
UTL: Running deliveries jobs in the network
UTL: Trains low on fuel should refuel soon
UTL: Trains without path cannot find a path
UTL: Trains from linked networks working here other networks' trains help out here
UTL: Trains of this network working elsewhere own trains help out elsewhere

The values refresh about once per second.

Examples

  • Lamp: mode "Shortage", lamp with condition [Copper plate] > 0 – it lights up as soon as copper is missing.
  • Too few trains: mode "Trains", condition [UTL: Trains free in depot] = 0 – time for more trains.
  • Space Age: wire mode "Shortage" to a cargo landing pad and enable "Set requests" there – whatever the rail network lacks is requested from orbit. UTL itself sends nothing to platforms.

To look at

  • Scenario "UTL examples": at the start a network combinator in mode "Trains" with a lamp – it lights up while a train is on a delivery.
