What ATSC is

ATSC 1.0 is the digital television standard of North America and South Korea (8VSB modulation, 6 MHz channels, MPEG-2 transport stream).

Frequencies and settings

North America, South Korea.

Setting Value
Channel width 6 MHz
Sample rate 8 Msps (the rate of the synthetic signal and of recordings)
Frequency your local channel plan: use the Scan tab

OnAir takes any frequency you type; the numbers above are the mode's starting point and the range its table describes. In the app the shortcut label is 8-VSB, North America.

What OnAir shows

Digital TV.

Tips and caveats

  • Used and checked on real broadcasts.
  • Which radio: No: wide TV channels need a radio that samples faster than an RTL-SDR, which reaches about 2.4 Msps. See Supported radios.
  • Try it without a radio: most modes include a built-in synthetic test signal, so you can open the screen and try the controls first.
  • Receiving and the law: Receiving free-to-air broadcasts is legal in most countries. OnAir cannot decode encrypted or scrambled services, and does not try to. See Legal.
