Mode Wi SUN FAN
Wi-SUN FAN: smart meter and street light mesh networks, nodes and links (receive only, no decryption).
| Group | IoT & sensors |
| Default frequency | 921.5 MHz |
| Default sample rate | 20 Msps |
| In the mode list | IoT, sub-GHz |
Step-by-step: Tutorial-Wi-SUN-FAN
Wi-SUN FAN is a smart utility mesh network (smart meters, street lights) on IEEE 802.15.4g FSK at 50, 100 and 150 kbit/s, with band plans for every Wi-SUN region from 470 MHz to 2.4 GHz. The nodes hop over every channel, so OnAir can look at a whole band at once (a fast radio is needed for that).
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Start frequency | 921.5 MHz |
| Tuning range of the mode table | 470 to 2484 MHz |
| Sample rate asked | 20 Msps |
| Lowest working rate | 2 Msps |
| Channel width | 18 MHz |
OnAir takes any frequency you type; the numbers above are the mode's starting point and the range its table describes. In the app the shortcut label is IoT, sub-GHz.
Wi-SUN FAN smart utility networks (smart meters, street lights) (IEEE 802.15.4g FSK at 50, 100 and 150 kbit/s) with the band plans of every Wi-SUN region from 470 MHz to 2.4 GHz: a whole band at once (the nodes hop over every channel, all of 915 - 928 MHz at 16 Msps), networks with their name and border router, nodes with vendor, role, routing cost and schedules, links with the levels acks report, a frame log and a hop chart. Receive only: nothing is sent or joined; PAN configurations and data are encrypted and stay so. Needs 16 Msps or more for the whole band (a few channels from 2 Msps).
- Checked with generated signals and impairments; recordings of real signals welcome.
- Which radio: Usually yes for narrowband signals: an RTL-SDR tunes roughly 24 MHz to 1.7 GHz at up to about 2.4 Msps. Wide signals such as TV channels need a faster radio, and OnAir says next to the source what the selected radio can do.
- Try it without a radio: most modes include a built-in synthetic test signal, so you can open the screen and try the controls first.
- Receiving and the law: This mode is passive. It only receives, never connects, pairs or joins networks, and never decrypts payloads. Check the rules where you live. See Legal.
