Flutter with drift

Teams that want an app on several devices often build and maintain a separate app for each, and then write local database code that returns untyped rows. Flutter and drift address the two halves of that problem together: one codebase for many screens, and a typed, reactive layer over a local SQLite database.

Flutter

Flutter is an open-source framework for building natively compiled apps for mobile, web, desktop and embedded devices from one codebase. It is written in Dart, and its Hot Reload feature shows code changes almost immediately without losing app state. The repository is BSD-3-Clause licensed, was created in 2015, and had about 179,000 stars and 13,000 open issues when checked.

drift

drift is a reactive persistence library for Dart and Flutter built on lower-level database packages. Query results become typed Dart objects. Any query can be watched and emits updated results when the data changes. SQL written by the developer is analyzed at compile time and generates typed row classes, and helper methods reduce manual schema and migration work. The library is MIT licensed, and its repository had about 3,300 stars and 207 open issues when checked.

Radar Assessment

Flutter with drift is placed in Trial at the inner position, on the owner's confirmed first-person use: it is the stack of the owner's holovault mobile app, which keeps a local drift database and has a long list of accepted decisions covering import, schema recovery, charts, QR lookup and filters. It stays below Adopt because the use covers one app.
