AI Video Chat
Video Chat adds a chat box to the video page. Viewers type a question and get an answer based on what is said and shown in that video.
It is part of the AI plugin and is powered by Companion, an online AI service.
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| AI plugin enabled, with the AccessToken saved | Connects your site to the AI service |
| Credits in your Marketplace wallet | Processing a video and answering questions cost credits |
| A video without a password | Password-protected videos cannot be processed |
| SubtitleSwitcher plugin (optional) | Needed only if you also want the automatic subtitle |
Your site connects to Companion automatically the first time you use it. You do not need to create a separate account.
- Open My videos (the video manager).
- Find the video and click Video chat. You can also click AI-Powered and open the Chat tab.
- Click Process this video for Chat.
- Wait. Processing can take a few minutes for long videos. You can close the window; processing continues.
- When it finishes, turn on Enable on player.
The chat now appears on the video page.
To remove it, turn off Enable on player.
The Chat tab shows the prices before you start:
| Charge | When |
|---|---|
| Video processing | Once per video. Based on the video length. |
| Chat answers | Each time a viewer's question is answered |
- All prices are in US dollars.
- The money comes from your Marketplace wallet, the same wallet used by your other AI services.
- Processing the same video again is charged again.
If your wallet runs out of credits, the chat stops working. Add credits to reactivate it. Processed videos may be deleted from the AI service after 24 hours without credits.
Go to Admin → Plugins → AI → parameters and choose Who can use the video Chat:
| Option | Who sees the chat |
|---|---|
| Everyone | All visitors (default) |
| Logged-in users | Only signed-in users |
| Users with the Companion Chat permission | Only members of user groups with the Can use Companion Chat permission |
Remember: every answered question uses credits, so Everyone can cost more on a busy site.
- Administrators, always.
- Other users only if their user group has the AI permission (Can use AI Suggestions), and only for videos they can edit.
To show users only the Video chat button, and hide the full AI-Powered button, turn on Show only Video Chat in the AI plugin parameters.
While processing, the AI also writes down what is said in the video. If the SubtitleSwitcher plugin is enabled, this text is added to the player as a subtitle automatically.
- If the video already has a subtitle in the same language, it is not replaced. The Chat tab asks you whether you want to replace it.
- You can also click Copy subtitle to player at any time.
- If nobody speaks in the video, no subtitle is created.
In the Chat tab, administrators see Open Companion dashboard. It opens in a new tab, where you can:
- see all processed videos;
- read the chat history;
- change chat settings;
- check how much you are spending.
| Message or problem | What to do |

| Could not submit this video | Check that your wallet has enough credits. |
| Password protected videos cannot be processed | Remove the video password, or do not use chat on that video. |
| Could not enable chat for this video yet | Processing has not finished. Wait and try again. |
| This account is disabled | Your wallet ran out of credits. Add credits. |
| The Video chat button is missing | Your user group does not have the AI permission, or the AI plugin is disabled. |
| The chat does not appear on the video page | Check Enable on player for that video, and check Who can use the video Chat. Try in a private window. |
| The subtitle did not appear | Enable the SubtitleSwitcher plugin, then click Copy subtitle to player. |
- AI answers can be wrong. Watch a few answers before relying on it.
- Viewers' questions are sent to the Companion service to be answered.
