Installation Setup Page
After the AVideo files are on your server, you finish the installation in your browser. The setup page checks your server, creates the database and creates your administrator account.
Open: https://your-site.com/install/
(Use your own address. If AVideo is in a folder, include it, for example https://your-site.com/AVideo/install/.)
At the top you see the Installation checklist. Each item has one of these marks:
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ✓ Check passed | OK |
| ✕ Needs attention | Something is missing or wrong |
| ! Not verified | The page cannot test it. Check it yourself later. |
| — Not applicable | Does not apply to your server |
Only the group Required for installation blocks the installation. The other groups are advice. You can install and fix them later.
To fix an item, click How to resolve. It explains the problem and often shows the command to run.
After fixing something on the server, reload the page.
If a required item is missing (for example a PHP extension), the page shows Ubuntu setup help and troubleshooting commands. It lists the commands for Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04.
If you are not comfortable running server commands, ask the person or company that manages your server.
| Field | What to type |
|---|---|
| Database host | Usually localhost
|
| Port | Usually 3306
|
| Username / Database password | Your MySQL or MariaDB login. The page suggests root; replace it with your own database user. If you used the Ubuntu install guide, the user is avideo and the password is in /root/avideo-install-credentials.txt. |
| Database name | A new or empty database, for example avideo
|
Database setup: leave Create database and tables. It also works when the database already exists and is empty (for example, one created by your hosting company).
Click Test connection. It only tests; it does not change anything.
Always use a new, empty database. Never install over a database that already has a site in it.
| Field | What to type |
|---|---|
| Site URL | The address people will use to open your site. It is filled in for you; check it. It should start with https://: set up HTTPS before installing, so you do not have to change the address later. |
| Site title | Your site name |
| Site language | The main language |
| Contact email | Your email. It is used for the administrator account. |
The user name is always admin.
Type a strong password twice and keep it in a safe place.
Click Install AVideo and wait.
When you see Installation complete, click Open application and sign in as admin.
The setup page then locks itself. Opening /install/ again only shows that the installation is complete. It does not show your passwords and cannot reinstall the site.
The checklist does not test everything. Before opening your site to the public:
- Upload a test video and check that it plays.
- If you use live streaming, make a test live.
- Set up email.
- Follow the Quick Start Guide.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Install AVideo button is grey | An item in Required for installation needs attention. Fix it and reload the page. |
| Configuration write access needs attention | The web server cannot write to the videos folder. On Ubuntu with Apache, someone with server access can run sudo mkdir -p /var/www/html/AVideo/videos and sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/AVideo/videos (adjust the path to your installation). |
| Composer dependencies or Frontend assets needs attention | Files are missing. The vendor and node_modules folders come with the AVideo download, so the download is probably incomplete: download AVideo again with git clone https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo.git. |
| Test connection fails | Check the database host, user and password. Confirm MySQL or MariaDB is running. |
| The installation stopped with an error | Read the message: it says what to fix. Fix it and try again. Your data is not deleted. |
| I lost the admin password | See Reset a Password. Do not reinstall. |
| I need to move my site to a new server | Do not use the setup page. Restore your backup instead. |
With Docker, the installation runs automatically using the values in your settings file. See Running AVideo with Docker.
If you do not set the administrator password there, a random one is created and saved on the server in videos/.initial_admin_password.php.
