EV Load Management

EV load management

Open Configure > EV load management. This is separate from selecting the vehicle or charger connection and from the optimizer's total-site kW cap.

Set Home electrical phases, Enable phase-aware EV load management, Mains limit per phase, Safety margin per phase and the requested L1/L2/L3 grid current sensor fields. Use mains-current sensors in amps for the correct phases; a total power sensor in kW is not a phase-current measurement. Configure only the phases actually present and use the circuit/site limits established for the installation.

PowerSync uses fresh per-phase telemetry to limit PowerSync-managed charging. Missing, invalid or stale required telemetry is treated conservatively and can drop managed charging to 0 A. The dialog shows the freshness interval used by this version. Uncontrolled/external EV loads and inverter response delays are not automatically covered by one managed charger's limit.

This is best-effort current management. It complements certified breaker/EVSE protection and does not replace it. When optimizer, session, charger and site ceilings all apply, a session cannot raise the lower available ceiling. Deadline charging remains constrained by available headroom.

After saving, confirm phase assignment, current signs/units, fresh timestamps and measured charging current at the same time. A configured limit is not proof of the measured response. If the sensors are unavailable, fix telemetry rather than raising the limit to make charging resume.

Field reference

The tables use the current form labels and help text. They list the conditional field union: a field can be hidden for a different battery, provider, route or available integration. The instructions above explain those conditions. Existing saved/discovered values take precedence over fresh fallbacks. Rate units follow the provider; check the displayed currency/energy unit.

EV phase load management — existing installation

Field Meaning / input Fallback / limits
Home electrical phases Single-phase homes only need the L1 sensor; three-phase homes need all three. Saved/detected value or the form’s shown fallback
Enable phase-aware EV load management When enabled, invalid, missing, or stale phase telemetry stops PowerSync-managed EV charging. Saved/detected value or the form’s shown fallback
Mains limit per phase Continuous current limit for each mains phase. Use the site-approved value. 0–400 A; step 1
Safety margin per phase Headroom retained below the configured limit to allow for telemetry and command latency. 0–100 A; step 0.5
L1 grid current sensor Sensor at the grid connection reporting L1 current in amps. Saved/detected value or the form’s shown fallback
L2 grid current sensor Sensor at the grid connection reporting L2 current in amps. Three-phase only. Saved/detected value or the form’s shown fallback
L3 grid current sensor Sensor at the grid connection reporting L3 current in amps. Three-phase only. Saved/detected value or the form’s shown fallback
