Description

Makes steel. It buys iron and coal nuggets at the forging supply shop, puts them all in a crucible and smelts them into one steel ingot with ;smelt. The more iron nuggets you ask for, the bigger the ingot. It can also refine the ingot with flux afterwards.

Steel comes in three carbon levels: more coal per iron nugget makes higher-carbon steel.

Type Coal per iron nugget
l (low) 1
m (medium) 2
h (high, the default) 3

Where to smelt

hometown: Crossing
force_crafting_town:
use_private_forge: false
forge_private_forge_cost:
Setting Default Purpose
force_crafting_town Buy nuggets and smelt in this town instead of your hometown.
use_private_forge false Smelt in the town's private forge instead of a public crucible. The older name forge_use_private_forge also works.
forge_private_forge_cost 50,000 Copper to have on hand for the private forge.

Without a private forge it finds an empty crucible in town. If use_private_forge is on and your town has no private forge, it stops and lists the towns that do (Crossing, Leth Deriel, Shard, Shadow's Reach, Aesry and Fang Cove).

Smelting tools

;smelt does the smelting, using your forging tools:

forging_tools:
  - stirring rod
  - bellows
  - shovel
adjustable_tongs: false
forging_belt:
crafting_container: backpack
crafting_items_in_container:

It stirs with the stirring rod in forging_tools (assuming stirring rod if none is listed), pushes your bellows when the fire dies down, and adds fuel with your shovel, or with your tongs if adjustable_tongs is on. See Crafting Setup for forging tools and toolbelts.

How it works

There are no settings for these; this is what to expect.

  • Coin. It makes sure you have 2,000 copper per iron nugget on hand, withdrawing from your bank if needed.
  • Nuggets. For each iron nugget it buys one to three coal nuggets, depending on the type, putting each away with STOW. The finished ingot is stowed the same way.
  • Too much at once. If the crucible says that's too much metal to smelt at once, it stops. Use a smaller count.
  • Refining. With refine, it buys flux if you have none, puts the steel ingot back in a crucible and runs ;smelt refine.

Argument Settings

;makesteel <count> [l|m|h] [refine]

Argument Purpose
count Required. How many iron nuggets to smelt into the ingot, 1 to 21.
l / m / h Carbon content: low, medium or high. High if not given.
refine Refine the resulting ingot with flux.

Usage

;makesteel 5

;makesteel 10 m

;makesteel 3 h refine
