Tinker Settings
Makes one tinkering item (Engineering), such as a crossbow, arbalest or stonebow. It studies the recipe, takes the lumber or bolt shafts and tools, and works the item through every step the game asks for: shaping, carving, rasping, gluing, clamping, staining, adjusting, and assembling parts such as backers, strings and mechanisms. It can also enhance a crossbow, or press metal into mechanisms at a gear press.
workorders runs it for tinkering work orders.
See Crafting Setup for engineering tools, toolbelts and books.

| tinkering_tools | bellow, carving knife, clamps, drawknife, pliers, rasp, shaper, shovel, tinker tools | Your tinkering tools. When a step needs a tool, the full name is taken from this list (so clamps finds steel clamps). |
| tinkering_belt | Toolbelt your tinkering tools hang on. Falls back to engineering_belt. |
|
| crafting_container | backpack | Where lumber, shafts, parts, glue, stain and the recipe book are kept. |
| crafting_items_in_container | Items to take only from crafting_container. |
|
| adjustable_tongs | false | Your tongs adjust into a shovel, for pressing mechanisms. |
Before starting it checks your wood stain and glue. If you have none, or one is down to fewer than 3 uses, it throws it away and buys a new one at the engineering supply shop in your hometown (or force_crafting_town). The skip argument turns this off.

mechanism_ingot_type: bronzeWhen an item needs mechanisms assembled, it uses <metal> mechanism from crafting_container, where the metal is the mechanism argument, else mechanism_ingot_type, else bronze. It assembles as many as the recipe needs.
master_crafting_book:It uses your master_crafting_book if set, otherwise a tinkering book from crafting_container. With the instructions form, it studies your instructions instead.

crafting_training_spells:Before starting it casts your tinker waggle set, if you have one. It also casts your crafting_training_spells between steps, and releases them when it's done.

| mark_crafted_goods | false | Mark the finished item with your stamp. Not done for chapter 7 items or crossbow enhancements. |
| cube_armor_piece | The item your Hollow Eve cube is attached to. It's touched when work starts. |
There are no settings for these; this is what to expect.
-
Starting material. Most recipes start from
<material> lumber. Chapter 7 starts from bolt shafts (bolt <material>). Crossbow enhancements start with the crossbow in your hands. - Not enough material. It stops and says so.
-
When it's done, the item goes into
crafting_container, and anything you dropped is picked up and put away.
Make an item from a book:
;tinker <chapter> "<recipe name>" <material> <noun> [skip] [mechanism]
| Argument | Purpose |
|---|---|
| chapter | The recipe's chapter. |
| recipe name | The recipe name, in double quotes if more than one word. |
| material | The wood type, e.g. maple. |
| noun | The finished item's noun. |
| skip | Don't restock glue or stain at the start. |
| mechanism | Optional. The metal of the mechanisms to assemble, e.g. brass. |
Make an item from instructions:
;tinker instructions <material> <noun> [skip]
Studies <noun> instructions from crafting_container, then starts on <material> lumber.
Enhance a crossbow:
;tinker <laminate|lighten|cable> <noun> [skip]
Hold the crossbow. laminate, lighten and cable are crossbow lamination, lightening and cable-backing.
Press mechanisms:
;tinker mechanisms <metal> [number] [s<speed>]
Walks to a shaping room with a gear press and presses <metal> ingots from crafting_container into mechanisms, using your shovel (or adjustable tongs). Each press uses 5 volume of metal. number is how many sets to make (default 1), and s<speed> sets the press speed from 1 to 12 (default s6). The finished mechanisms are combined and stowed.
Resume an item you're holding:
;tinker resume <noun> [skip]
;tinker 2 "a toy crossbow" maple crossbow
;tinker lighten crossbow
;tinker mechanisms bronze 3 s5
;tinker resume crossbow
