Walkingastro Settings
Trains Astrology for Moon Mages in the background while you do other things. Every few minutes, when it's safe to, it takes out your telescope, observes the sun or a constellation, and predicts from the prediction pools it builds up.
For a full Astrology session instead, see astrology.
walkingastro:
startup_delay:
use_tools: false
use_partial_pools: false
predict_regardless_of_mindstate: false
analyze_divination_tool: falseAll of these go under walkingastro:. Left blank, each one is off.
| Setting | Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| startup_delay | Seconds to wait after starting before doing anything. | |
| use_tools | off | Predict with your divination bones or tool instead of PREDICT FUTURE (see Divination). |
| use_partial_pools | off | Predict after every successful observation, aligned to the pool that the sun or constellation it observed feeds (see What it observes). When this is off, it only predicts when a pool is full. |
| predict_regardless_of_mindstate | off | Predict even when Astrology is above 25 mindstates. This is meant for passively bonding with a divination tool; if you're doing that, leave use_partial_pools off. |
| analyze_divination_tool | off | ANALYZE your divination tool after each use. This is for logging only and gives no in-game benefit. |
telescope_name: telescope
telescope_storage:
container: backpack| Setting | Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| telescope_name | telescope | Its noun. |
| telescope_storage | Where it's kept: container: <container>, or tied: <item it's tied to>. With neither, it's fetched and stowed normally. |
These are the same settings astrology uses.
If both your hands are full when it goes to get the telescope, it says so and tries again as soon as they're empty. If it can't get the telescope for any other reason, for example because it isn't where telescope_storage says, it tells you and tries again at the next observation. If it can't put the telescope away, it tells you, and it won't observe again until your hands are empty.

- workordersIt tries to observe about every 3.5 minutes, or sooner when the game says "You feel you have sufficiently pondered your latest observation". It only observes when all of these are true:
- None of the scripts in
walkingastro_no_use_scriptsis running. - Both your hands are empty.
- You can see the sky. It checks this once each time you move to a new room.
Its first try, straight after it starts (and after any startup_delay), doesn't wait for these.
This list comes with useful defaults. If you set your own, yours replaces the default list completely, so start from the list above and add to it.
While it observes, your other scripts are paused. It runs ;buff walkingastro first, so you can keep spells such as Piercing Gaze up with a walkingastro waggle set.
From dawn to dusk it centers your telescope on the Elanthian sun. From sunset until almost dawn it picks one of these constellations at random, depending on your circle:
| Circle | Constellations |
|---|---|
| 1 | Heart |
| 2-3 | Heart, Wolf |
| 4-11 | Heart, Wolf, Raven |
| 12 | Heart, Wolf, Raven, Cat |
| 13-17 | Wolf, Raven, Cat, Ram |
| 18-39 | Wolf, Raven, Cat, Ram, Magpie |
| 40 | Wolf, Raven, Spider, Ram, Magpie |
| 41-43 | Wolf, Raven, Spider, Ram, Giant |
| 44+ | Toad, Raven, Spider, Ram, Magpie |
Each one feeds a single pool, and that's the pool use_partial_pools aligns to:
| Pool | Fed by |
|---|---|
| Survival | The sun, Heart, Ram |
| Magic | Wolf, Toad |
| Lore | Raven |
| Offense | Cat, Spider |
| Defense | Magpie, Giant |
It doesn't check first whether the constellation it picked is in the sky. If it isn't, that attempt is wasted and it tries again at the next chance.
If it can't see the sky, or observing hurts ("The pain is too much" or "Your vision is too fuzzy"), it puts the telescope away and waits for the next chance.
- It only predicts while Astrology is at 25 mindstates or below, unless
predict_regardless_of_mindstateis on. - Without
use_partial_pools, it predicts when the game says a pool is full, aligning to that pool. If it isn't sure which, it checks with PREDICT STATE ALL first. - If a creature closes to melee or pole range during a prediction, it retreats.
divination_bones_storage:
container: bag
divination_tool:
name: mirror
container: bagWith use_tools on, it rolls your bones if divination_bones_storage is set, otherwise it uses your divination_tool if that's set, otherwise PREDICT FUTURE. With use_tools off, it always uses PREDICT FUTURE.
These settings work the same way as for astrology; see that page for their formats.
| Argument | Purpose |

;walkingastro debug
Leave it running. When it stops, it puts away your telescope and divination tool if they're in your hands.
