Open blocked websites and apps, without a VPN service.
Shroudly is a free, open-source app for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android that gets you past internet censorship. It runs on your own computer or phone, reshapes the first packets that internet filters inspect, and looks names up over encrypted DNS, so blocked sites and apps load again. There is no server in between, no account, no subscription and nothing to configure, and when you close it your device is left exactly as it was.
Each guide covers installing (on Android too), the first start, every setting, what to do when something does not open, what the app's messages mean, privacy, and how to report a problem. The app itself is available in 31 languages.
- Not a VPN service. Your traffic goes straight to the real site. Nothing passes through someone else's server, so no extra party handles your traffic and nothing slows you down.
- Finds the way by itself. For each blocked site it tries its techniques one after another, keeps the one that works on your network and remembers it for next time.
- Encrypted DNS built in. False answers that filters give to name lookups no longer reach you.
- Brings apps along, not only browsers. The Discord app, Roblox, Roblox Studio and other programs that ignore the usual proxy setting get dedicated modes, and Advanced mode works on the packets themselves for networks that filter more deeply.
- Fixes what it can by itself. When Shroudly sees what is in the way, such as Discord or Roblox blocked on your network, a program stuck around it, a site that needs Advanced mode or a browser that goes around Shroudly, it turns on what is needed (or names the browser) and tells you in one line. Nobody has to dig through settings.
- On Android too. One small APK for Android 8 and newer, for every phone. It uses Android's VPN function only on the phone itself, so every app, Discord voice and games included, goes through the same engine, with nothing to set up and no root.
- Leaves nothing behind. Everything it changes is put back when you stop it, quit, log out, or even if it crashes.
- Light. It runs quietly in the background with a small footprint and updates itself.
- Download it: Windows · macOS (Apple Silicon) · macOS (Intel) · Linux · Android · every package
- Install and open it.
- Press Start protection. On Android, also allow the VPN request.
That is all. Details for your system are in the guide for your language.
- Open source under the MIT license: every line is public at https://github.com/umutxyp/Shroudly.
- Built in the open: every release is built from that source by GitHub Actions, and every package is installed and started on its own system before it is published.
- Official sources only: Shroudly is published on the Releases page and at https://shroudly.codeshare.me, nowhere else. Nobody from the project will ever ask you for a password, a token, or to run a file they send you.
- Security problems can be reported privately: https://github.com/umutxyp/Shroudly/security/advisories/new.
- First install: if Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info → Run anyway; if macOS will not open Shroudly, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. This is needed only once. The Android APK is always signed with the project's own key. See the code signing policy.
Shroudly is a Codeshare product (Codeshare Technology Ltd). Codeshare builds software for online communities, from Discord bots and community platforms to AI tools and desktop apps, and keeps the core of it free for the people who need it.
Shroudly is developed by Umut Bayraktar, a full-stack developer and AI systems researcher who builds products for large online communities. Its engine, shroudly-core, is written from scratch in C; its techniques draw on the public research behind GoodbyeDPI and zapret, reimplemented independently, and it recognises censors' block pages from OONI's open data.
