Style sheet

Type: custom, tested in production (pass)

  • Medium phrase: "Charcoal and chalk drawing on toned grey paper, widescreen 16:9." Video anchor: "Hand-drawn charcoal and chalk animation on toned grey paper: deep compressed charcoal darks and white chalk lights, hand-drawn marks that slightly re-draw frame to frame in a gentle stepped cadence, drawn, not rendered."
  • Character design: figures built from dark masses and a few sharp contour lines; highlights are quick chalk strokes on cheek, brow, folds, edges. Big dark garments suit it.
  • Materials / rendering: velvety compressed charcoal, smudged shading, charcoal dust at edges, white chalk broken by paper tooth. The mid-grey paper carries every mid-tone; only darks are charcoal and only lights are chalk. No colour except the warm white of the chalk.
  • Light: one practical source (lantern, window) read as chalk highlights on the lit side and charcoal shadow on the other; chalk spray or glow for bright accents.
  • Motion: one beat per segment (coat lifting in wind, a head turn, a lantern swing), stepped cadence; one very slow push.
  • Stability line: "Strictly charcoal and chalk on toned grey paper, stepped hand-drawn cadence, paper tooth visible throughout, the mid-grey paper carrying every mid-tone, stable marks that do not re-smudge, consistent character drawing."
  • Guards: no colour, no photorealism, no 3D rendering, no realistic skin or fabric texture, no ink lines, no smooth digital gradients, no live-action look.
  • Known failures: none in the test take (lighthouse keeper on a cliff, lantern and wind). Smudgy edges are the risk; "stable marks that do not re-smudge" held it.
