Type: custom, tested in production (pass)
- Medium phrase: "Mid-century picture-book illustration painted in opaque gouache on heavy cream paper, widescreen 16:9." Video anchor: "Mid-century picture-book animation in opaque matte gouache: flat chunky painted shapes with visible brush texture and no outlines, shapes that move in a gentle stepped painted cadence, painted, not rendered."
- Character design: flat opaque shapes with soft matte edges, no outlines; a coat is one solid chunky shape with one darker fold; faces are flat ovals with dot eyes.
- Materials / rendering: matte chalky gouache, brush drag, slight unevenness in flat colours, tiny paper at some edges, muted period palette (teal, dusty pink, ochre, slate). Every shape defined by its colour meeting the next.
- Light: soft overcast or simple directional light with no cast shadows, or a single flat shadow shape.
- Motion: a walk, a puddle splash, a face lifted to the rain; stepped movement of flat shapes; one slow tracking move.
- Stability line: "Strictly opaque matte gouache on cream paper, flat painted shapes with no outlines, stepped painted cadence, brush texture visible throughout, stable flat colours that do not boil or crawl, consistent character drawing."
- Guards: no outlines, no gradients, no glossy or photographic surfaces, no photorealism, no 3D rendering, no realistic fabric texture, no live-action look, no signage.
-
Known failures: none in the test take (girl in a yellow raincoat on a rainy street). Gouache is the most stable painted medium in motion; prefer it over watercolour for a painted background in a hybrid (
hybrid-pencil-on-gouache.md).
