Style sheet

Type: custom, tested in production (run; grade pending)

  • Medium phrase: "A leaded stained-glass window photographed from inside a dim stone church, straight on, widescreen 16:9, the window filling most of the frame." Video anchor: "Stained-glass animation: a leaded window of coloured glass pieces bounded by thick black lead came, where the only things that change are the light behind the glass and [the subject], every lead line staying fixed, leaded and fired, not rendered."
  • Character design: every area of colour a separate piece of glass bounded by thick continuous black lead came with visible solder joints; detail as fine black painted trace lines fired onto the glass; soft black matting for shading; figures in opalescent white glass.
  • Materials / rendering: streaky, bubbled, textured glass; saturated glowing colour brightest in sun and sky pieces; a border of alternating coloured and clear squares; faint coloured light on the sill below.
  • Light: daylight behind the glass as the only light, the room dim.
  • Motion: let the light do the work: a slow brightening, a cloud shadow crossing, then one small subject move (heads turning as whole glass pieces). Camera locked.
  • Stability line: "Strictly a leaded stained-glass window, every piece of glass crisp and separately bounded by fixed black lead lines, no gradients crossing lead lines, glass textures and bubbles visible throughout, stable glass colours, consistent window design."
  • Guards: no lead lines moving or changing, no glass pieces changing shape or colour, no re-leading, no gradients across lead lines, no photographic subject, no photorealism, no 3D rendering, no live-action look, no unleaded areas.
  • Known failures: expected failure is re-leading between frames; the identity block states that every piece and every lead line stays exactly where it is, and the subject motion is confined to light and a head turn.
