Style sheet

Type: custom, tested in production (pass)

  • Medium phrase: "Hand-drawn coloured-pencil and graphite sketch animation frame on textured cream drawing paper, widescreen 16:9. A single frame from a frame-by-frame paper animation: loose graphite outlines with slight pencil wobble and light construction lines showing through, filled with layered coloured pencil in full, warm colour, the strokes of the coloured pencil visible and following the forms, with soft graphite shading in the shadows." Video anchor: "Hand-drawn coloured-pencil and graphite sketch stop-motion animation on textured cream paper: loose graphite outlines filled with layered coloured pencil in full warm colour, lines and strokes that slightly re-draw and flicker frame to frame in a gentle stepped stop-motion cadence, drawn, not rendered."
  • Character design: the subject fully coloured in layered coloured pencil with the graphite lines still visible through the colour; white areas left as bare cream paper with a thin outline. Earlier wording said "light tint"; the frames that passed were solidly coloured, and the colour is the point.
  • Materials / rendering: paper grain through every colour, visible stroke direction, soft graphite edges; the background coloured too but looser and paler than the subject.
  • Light: soft directional light as graphite shading on the far side and a hatched cast shadow.
  • Motion: one beat per segment (strides, a head turn, pigeons hopping) in a stepped re-drawn cadence; one slow push or track.
  • Stability line: "Strictly hand-drawn graphite and coloured pencil on cream paper, full colour on the subject, looser paler colour behind, stepped stop-motion cadence, paper grain and pencil stroke direction visible throughout, stable colours that do not shift, consistent character drawing."
  • Guards: no photorealism, no 3D rendering, no realistic skin or fabric texture, no ink or paint look, no watercolour, no smooth digital lines, no live-action look, no fading of the colours.
  • Known failures: the first sheet under-described the colour as "light tint"; the generated Bella frame was richly coloured and that is the look to ask for.
