Installation

BlockFactory is a single jar file that you add to Hytale, either to your own game for singleplayer or to a dedicated server. This page shows both ways, what you need, and how to keep your worlds safe when you update.

What you need

Hytale Built for Hytale 0.6.8. The mod declares itself compatible with server versions from 0.6.8 up to, but not including, 0.7.0.
Other mods None. BlockFactory needs no library mods; everything it uses ships with Hytale.
File BlockFactory-<version>.jar, from the official CurseForge page.

The jar contains everything: code, models, sounds, music and all languages. You do not unpack it.

Singleplayer

  1. Copy BlockFactory-<version>.jar into the UserData/Mods/ folder of your Hytale installation.
  2. Restart the Hytale client.
  3. Create a new world. In the world options, open Mods and tick BlockFactory.
  4. Start the world. You wake up in a cryo capsule in the bunker (see Your First Hour).

Your singleplayer files live inside the world save:

File Path
World settings (generator, raids, peaceful mode) Saves/<World>/universe/worlds/default/config.json
Mod settings (research test times) Saves/<World>/mods/com.mutigeraffe_blockfactory/config.json

What the settings do: World Settings.

Dedicated server

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Copy BlockFactory-<version>.jar into the server's mods/ folder.
  3. If you want to change world generation (ore amounts, nest density, peaceful mode), create the world's config.json before the first start. Generator values only affect chunks that are generated afterwards, and the first start already generates the area around the spawn. Details: World Settings.
  4. Start the server. On a server with BlockFactory, every new world uses the BlockFactory world generator.

Players who join do not install anything. The server sends the mod's content to their game client.

File Path
World settings universe/worlds/<world>/config.json
Mod settings mods/com.mutigeraffe_blockfactory/config.json

The mod settings file appears on the first start. The server reads it only when it starts, so edit it while the server is stopped.

Why you need a new world

BlockFactory has its own world generator, also called "BlockFactory". It builds the flat steppe, the ore fields, the bunker at the spawn, the Portal of the Ancient and the Great Portal. A world created without the mod has none of this, and its terrain does not fit the rules of the mod (you cannot dig or place world blocks, see Factory, Not Sandbox). Always start BlockFactory in a fresh world.

Updating

BlockFactory is in active development. A new version can change how worlds are generated or saved. When that happens, a world from an older version does not start any more; the server log names the reason. You then have two choices:

  • keep playing that world with the old version of the mod, or
  • start a new world with the new version.

There is no automatic conversion. So before every update:

  1. Stop the server or close the world.
  2. Copy the whole world folder somewhere safe (on a server: universe/worlds/<world>/; in singleplayer: Saves/<World>/).
  3. Replace the old jar with the new one. Do not keep both jars in the folder.
  4. Start and check the server log.

Never edit LayoutVersion or CreatedWith in the world's config.json. The mod writes them itself, and they protect your world from being generated with mismatched rules.

Removing the mod

Remove the jar from the Mods/ or mods/ folder (in singleplayer you can also untick it in the world options). Worlds created with BlockFactory are built for the mod and are not meant to be played without it.
