Great Portal
Spoilers: this page reveals the end goal.
The Great Portal is the end goal of BlockFactory. It is a huge, dark ruin of the Ancients that you can see from the start, not far from spawn. Opening it is your "only way out" of this world. You cannot build it; you wake it with the best products your factory can make and a lot of power.
The Great Portal was the greatest work of the Ancients, your own people. A devastating war destroyed their civilization, and the portal went dark. You survived in a bunker and slept through the centuries in a cryo capsule. Now you rebuild the old knowledge, one scroll at a time, until the portal can open again. See Lore.
You do not walk through the portal, and the game does not end. Opening it is the achievement; afterwards your factory keeps growing.
- Research Great Portal, the last research of the game (Epoch 5, 10 × Knowledge Scroll V). It needs Nuclear Power, Logistics 4, Hob-Goblin Construction 2 and Rune Crafting 3.
- Build a Great Portal Altar within 32 blocks of the centre of the Great Portal. An altar farther away takes nothing.
- Deliver goods and power to the altar until the bar is full.
The goal display on screen walks you through these three steps.
| Great Portal Altar | |
|---|---|
| Epoch | 5 |
| Unlocked by | Great Portal |
| Recipe | 100 Concrete, 100 Steel Plate, 50 Rune Slate, 50 Processing Unit, 50 Electric Engine |
| Energy | 20 MW electric while charging |
| Goods | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rune Module Speed MK3 | 50 |
| Rune Module Productivity MK3 | 50 |
| Low Density Frame | 500 |
| Processing Unit | 500 |
| Uranium Fuel Cell | 200 |
| Power | 12 GJ (20 MW for 10 minutes) |
- Deliver by hand, belt or grabber, like any other machine; bring power with power poles. Use the altar to see your progress per item and the power charged.
- Before the Great Portal research is done, the altar takes nothing.
- Each team has its own bar. In multiplayer several teams can race for it.
- As your bar fills, the rune stones of the ruin light up one by one and the gap in the ring closes.
When the first team fills its bar, the Great Portal awakens for everyone in the world: a cutscene plays for all players, the ground shakes and all runes blaze. The team gets the achievement "Beyond the Great Portal". Every other team that fills its bar later gets the achievement too.
The open portal keeps taking goods. Everything you deliver to the altar afterwards pays Ancient-Tech, a third kind of research point, for endless research.
| Goods | Ancient-Tech each |
|---|---|
| Rune Module Speed MK3, Productivity MK3, Efficiency MK3 | 40 |
| Uranium Fuel Cell | 6 |
| Low Density Frame | 4 |
| Processing Unit | 3 |
Curiosity applies like at the research centers: −1 % per piece, +1 % every 6 seconds (see Research).
The endless research is Ancient Mining: every level makes all your drills yield 10 % more. Level 1 costs 1,000 Ancient-Tech, level 2 costs 2,000, and so on. Use the altar to see your points, then buy the next level with /ancient --buy=mining.
