FAQ

Short answers to the questions new players ask most. Each answer links to the page with the details.

Do I need a new world?

Yes. BlockFactory has its own world generator with the bunker, ore fields and portals. A world created without the mod has none of that. See Installation.

Do players need to install the mod to join my server?

No. Only the server needs the jar in its mods/ folder. The server sends the mod's content to every client that joins. See Installation.

Why can't I dig or place blocks?

BlockFactory is a factory game, not a sandbox. You can only remove trees and rocks and place factory parts. See Factory, Not Sandbox.

How do I get my machine back?

Hold left click on it for half a second. The part and everything inside it go into your inventory. See Controls and Building.

Where do I get ore?

From ore fields. Place a Wooden Drill on one (you find two in the bunker lockers) and give it fuel. You can also hold left click on a field block to get one ore every few seconds, but that is slow. Fields never run out. See Mining and Gathering by Hand.

I can't find a recipe, or it is locked. What now?

Right click with the Field Manual (or type /recipes) and search for the item. Left click shows how to make it, right click what it is used for. A red mark means the recipe needs research first. If you lost the Field Manual, you get a new one the next time you join the world. See Field Manual and Research.

The goal panel says "Power the bunker". How?

You need a steam engine for that, and the steam machines come with the first research, Steam Power. So first rebuild the Portal of the Ancient next to the bunker, summon Goblins and an Outlander, and research Steam Power. See Your First Hour.

An icon floats over my machine. What does it mean?

The machine has a problem: no fuel, no power, output full, and so on. Status Icons and Warnings lists every icon. You can also look at the machine: the info panel under the crosshair tells you what it has and what it lacks.

Where did my stamina and hunger go?

There are none. You can sprint forever, and your health refills by itself after 5 seconds without damage. See Factory, Not Sandbox.

I died. Is my stuff gone?

No. Your whole inventory waits in a Death Chest where you died, and you wake up in the bunker. See Death and Respawn.

How do I turn off the tips?

Type /tips --off. /tips --on turns them back on.

Why doesn't my world start after an update?

The new version generates or saves worlds differently. The server log names the reason. Go back to the old version for that world, or start a new world. Always back up the world folder before updating. See Installation.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Players can found teams with their own factories and research, and server operators can allow raids. See Teams and Raids.
