Crafting

Everything you build comes from BlockFactory recipes. You make some of them by hand from your inventory and leave the rest to machines. Vanilla recipes and workbenches are switched off.

Handcrafting

Open your inventory and choose the crafting category Factory. It lists every recipe you can make by hand. Pick a recipe and an amount, and the job starts.

  • The ingredients leave your inventory at once.
  • The products arrive one by one as each piece finishes.
  • You can keep playing while the queue works.

Crafting times

Most simple items take half a second each. Bigger things take longer:

Time Examples
0.5 s Iron Gear, Copper Cable, Electronic Circuit, belts, grabbers, chests, pipes, Brick Furnace, Small Power Pole, Wooden Walls
1 s Cartridge, splitters, underground belts
2 s Wooden Drill, Auto Drill
5 s Goblin Hut, Cryo Capsule, Rangertower, Flintlock Pistol
8 s Gun Tower, Oil Processor, Nuclear Reactor
10 s Goblin Research Center, Outlander Test Site, Solar Panel
30 s Great Portal Altar, Portal of the Ancient

The Field Manual shows the exact time of every recipe.

The crafting queue

The bar at the bottom left of the screen shows the running job: item, pieces left in this job, how many jobs wait, and the progress.

  • The queue holds up to 32 jobs. Adding the same recipe again extends the last waiting job.
  • /craftqueue lists your jobs.
  • /craftqueue --cancel cancels the job you added last; /craftqueue --all cancels every job. The ingredients of all unfinished pieces come back, including the piece in progress.
  • The queue is saved with your character.

Unlike Factorio, handcrafting does not make missing intermediate products for you. To craft a Wooden Drill you need the Iron Gears in your inventory first; craft them, then the drill.

Crafting in machines

Machines craft without you, as long as they get ingredients and fuel or power.

  • Furnaces (Brick Furnace, later Blast Furnace and Electric Furnace) need no settings. They see what you put in and pick the recipe: Iron Ore becomes Iron Plate, Copper Ore becomes Copper Plate, 2 Stone become a Stone Brick, each in 3.2 s at base speed.
  • Fabricators (from the Automation research) make any factory recipe. Open one, choose a recipe, and feed it the ingredients by hand, by belt or with grabbers. Crouch + right click copies a Fabricator's recipe, crouch + left click pastes it onto another one.
  • Special machines have their own recipes: the Chemical Plant, Oil Processor, Golems Refineries, SlaughterHouse and Tree Farm.

Some recipes exist only in a machine. Advanced Circuit, Processing Unit, Concrete and the Rune Modules, for example, need a Fabricator; plastics and sulfur need a Chemical Plant. The Field Manual names the machine for every recipe.

Locked recipes

Many recipes start locked and open through research at the Outlander Test Site. A locked recipe cannot be crafted, neither by hand nor in a Fabricator.

  • In the Field Manual, locked items carry a red mark. The item's page names the research that unlocks it.
  • The filter Only unlocked hides everything you cannot make yet.
  • Research belongs to your team. When it completes, every member can craft the new recipes right away. Players without a team share one world team.

The first research, Steam Power, unlocks the Water Pump, Water Boiler, Steam Generator, Small Power Pole, Auto Drill and Lamp. See Research and Research Tree.

Alternative recipes

War Golems guard Research Capsules. Redeem them at an Outlander Test Site to unlock alternative recipes for Fabricators. See Research Capsules.
