Factory Not Sandbox
BlockFactory turns Hytale into a factory game in the style of Factorio. Many things you know from vanilla Hytale work differently or are switched off. Read this page before your first world, so nothing surprises you.
| Vanilla Hytale | BlockFactory | |
|---|---|---|
| Breaking blocks | Everything | Only trees and rocks, as a whole, without a tool item |
| Placing blocks | Everything | Only factory parts |
| Ore | Mined by hand with a pickaxe | From ore fields, mainly with drills; slow by hand |
| Ore deposits | Run out | Ore fields are infinite |
| Crafting | Vanilla recipes and workbenches | Only BlockFactory recipes, by hand and in machines |
| Mobs and critters | Spawn naturally | Off; only BlockFactory creatures and NPCs |
| Fall damage | Yes | No |
| Stamina | Sprinting costs stamina | Sprint as long as you like; no stamina bar |
| Health | Does not regenerate by itself | Regenerates after 5 s without damage |
| Death | Items drop | Your whole inventory goes into a Death Chest |
| Music | Vanilla soundtrack | BlockFactory's own music |
You cannot break or place world blocks: no soil, stone, sand or water. The steppe is flat and only a few blocks thick. What you can change:
- Trees and rocks: hold left click to remove the whole object. See Gathering by Hand.
- Factory parts: everything from BlockFactory recipes that you can place (machines, belts, pipes, rails, walls, floors, and more). You place them and pick them back up into your inventory. See Controls and Building.
- Floors replace the top soil under your factory, and Landfill turns water into ground. See Floors and Landfill.
- Mountain walls block your way until you can blast them with TNT.
Iron, Copper, Coal, Stone, Sand, Clay, Gold and Uranium lie in ore fields on the surface. A field never runs out. You can hit a field block by hand and get an ore every few seconds, but the block stays; real mining is done by drills. Fields farther from the spawn are bigger and richer. Oil comes from oil wells. See Mining and The World.
Wild trees do not grow back. Neither do rocks. Once your factory needs a steady supply of wood, research the Tree Farm. See Hunting and Farming.
All vanilla recipes and workbenches are removed. You craft from the Factory tab of the handcrafting in your inventory, and machines craft the rest. Many recipes are locked until you research them. The Field Manual shows every recipe and use. See Crafting, Field Manual and Research.
Vanilla mobs and critters do not spawn. What lives in the steppe belongs to BlockFactory:
- alien animal herds that you can trap for meat and hides (Hunting and Farming),
- enemy nests that wake up from the noise of your factory (Enemies, Noise and Unrest),
- War Golems guarding ruins (Enemies),
- Goblins, Golems and Outlanders that you summon to work for you (Goblins, Golems, Outlanders).
- Health is your only bar. After 5 seconds without damage it refills by 2 % per second, so you are back to full in under a minute.
- No stamina, no hunger. Sprint whenever you like. Meat is a raw material, not food.
- No fall damage.
- Dying puts your whole inventory into a Death Chest where you died; nothing is lost. You wake up in the bunker, or in a powered Cryo Capsule you built. See Death and Respawn.
There are no dungeons or loot. You advance by building production and researching new technology at the Portal of the Ancient, through five epochs, until you open the Great Portal. See Epochs and Great Portal.
