Sill
Reaching a Mac application from an iPhone or iPad usually means a remote-desktop service with accounts and relay servers. Sill streams a single window, or the whole desktop, from a Mac to an iPhone or iPad with no account and no server in between.
Sill captures windows with ScreenCaptureKit and encodes them as HEVC video (README). The mobile device controls the Mac with touch, Apple Pencil, a trackpad, or a keyboard, and input travels back to the Mac. Mac menus work, and the clipboard is shared for text.
Devices connect over local Wi-Fi, a USB cable, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, or a private network such as Tailscale. Traffic uses TLS 1.3, and each device goes through a pairing step. The README warns that versions 0.3.1 and earlier sent traffic unencrypted and should be updated.
Sill needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 14 or later and an iPhone or iPad on iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. The Mac app needs Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions. The optional virtual display relies on a private macOS API. The Mac app installs by direct download or Homebrew cask, and the mobile app comes from the App Store.
The repository was created on 2026-09-22 under the Apache-2.0 license. At the time of review it had about 3,751 stars and 95 open issues. Version numbers are below 1.0.
Sill is placed in Assess within Tools. It solves a clear problem with a serverless design, but it is a recent pre-1.0 project limited to Apple platforms and had an unencrypted early history. No first-person production use has been confirmed, so the ring remains Assess.
