UnderstandAnything
Newcomers to a codebase, and the AI agents that work in it, rarely have a map of how the pieces fit together. Understand-Anything is a plugin that reads a codebase and produces an interactive knowledge graph that can be explored, searched, and questioned in plain English.
A multi-agent pipeline analyzes a codebase, knowledge base, or documentation set and builds a graph of files, functions, classes, and dependencies (README). An interactive dashboard shows the graph with search and plain-English summaries on each node. Further views group code into layers (API, Service, Data, UI, Utility), map code to business processes and flows, and offer guided architecture tours and diff impact analysis.
In Claude Code, the /understand command builds the graph and saves it to .ua/knowledge-graph.json, and /understand-dashboard opens the explorer. Companion commands cover questions (/understand-chat), change impact (/understand-diff), explanation, and onboarding. Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Kiro, and other platforms install through a one-line script. A committed graph can be shared with a team, and a read-only viewer runs through npx without Claude Code.
The README warns that the first analysis of a large project can use many tokens. Later runs are incremental.
The repository was created on 2026-03-15 under the MIT license. At the time of review it had about 87,000 stars and 330 open issues.
Understand-Anything is placed in Assess within Tools. It addresses a concrete onboarding and comprehension problem, and its adoption signals are strong for a project under a year old. No first-person production use has been confirmed, so the ring remains Assess.
