Alchemy

Category: Botany · Command: /alchemy · Super ability: None

Alchemy speeds up your brewing and unlocks new potion ingredients that vanilla Minecraft doesn't have.

Earning XP

Brew potions in a brewing stand you own (you own one if you were the last player to open it or put items in it; you need to be online). Each bottle earns XP, so a full stand of three pays three times as much. What it's worth depends on how far along the potion is:

Step Example XP per bottle
1. Base potion Water Bottle → Awkward Potion 666
2. Add an effect Awkward → Swiftness 1,111
3. First amplifier Swiftness → Swiftness II, or Long Swiftness 1,750
4. Second amplifier → Splash or Lingering 2,250
Re-brewing a potion that doesn't change its step e.g. Splash → Lingering 0

So taking three bottles all the way from water to splash potions earns 3 × (666 + 1,111 + 1,750 + 2,250) = 17,331 XP.

Abilities

Ability Unlocks What it does
Catalysis From the start Brew faster. The speed rises steadily from normal (20 seconds a brew) to 4× at level 100 (5 seconds).
Concoctions Ranks at 0, 10, 20, 35, 50, 75, 90, 100 Unlocks extra brewing ingredients (below)

Concoctions ingredients:

Each new ingredient is brewed into an Awkward Potion, like most vanilla ingredients.

Rank Level New ingredients (potion)
1 0 Most vanilla ingredients
2 10 Carrot (Haste), Slime Ball (Mining Fatigue), Phantom Membrane (Slow Falling)
3 20 Quartz (Absorption), Rabbit's Foot (Leaping)
4 35 Apple (Health Boost), Rotten Flesh (Hunger)
5 50 Brown Mushroom (Nausea), Ink Sac (Blindness)
6 75 Fern (Saturation)
7 90 Poisonous Potato (Decay, which applies Wither)
8 100 Golden Apple (Resistance)

Phantom Membrane and Rabbit's Foot work in vanilla Minecraft, but in mcRPG you need Alchemy 10 and 20 to brew with them.

Tips

  • Take every potion as far as it can go: later steps pay more XP.
  • Running several brewing stands at once multiplies your XP.
  • Catalysis makes Alchemy faster the more you level it.
  • Alchemy is in Botany with Woodcutting and Herbalism: nether wart, sugar cane, carrots, apples, ferns and mushrooms all come from farming. See Wooden Mastery for Botany's passive.
