Leveling and XP
Every skill uses the same level curve. What differs is how you earn XP, which is explained on each skill's page.
Each level costs 11,300 + 2,000 × your current level XP.
| From level | XP for the next level | Total XP from 0 |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 11,300 | 0 |
| 1 | 13,300 | 11,300 |
| 10 | 31,300 | 203,000 |
| 25 | 61,300 | 882,500 |
| 50 | 111,300 | 3,015,000 |
| 75 | 161,300 | 6,397,500 |
| 100 | 211,300 | 11,030,000 |
Level 100 takes 11,030,000 XP. That's meant to be a long-term goal, which is why Specializations matter so much.
Your first level is quick. While a skill is at level 0, every XP gain gets a bonus of 5% of level 1's cost, so any skill reaches level 1 after about 20 actions.
XP earned = the action's base XP × your Specialization multiplier
| Your skill is in... | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| Your Primary Specialization | 1.25× |
| Your Secondary Specialization | 1.0× |
| Neither (or you haven't chosen) | 0.35× |
The base XP values on this wiki are before the multiplier. So a Deepslate Diamond Ore (3,600 base XP) gives 4,500 Mining XP to a Metallurgy Primary, 3,600 to a Metallurgy Secondary, and 1,260 to anyone else.
There are no XP boost perks, XP potions or server-wide XP events. Server owners can set a global multiplier in the config, but it can't be changed in game.
mcRPG has protections against XP farming. The main ones you'll notice:
- Blocks you or other players placed give no XP and no bonus drops. Only naturally generated blocks count for Mining, Woodcutting, Herbalism and Excavation.
- Mobs from spawners, spawn eggs and nether portals give no combat XP. Naturally spawned mobs and mobs bred by players give full XP.
- Animals you or another player tamed give no combat XP, and neither do wolves, cats and horses summoned with Call of the Wild.
- Snow golems, armor stands and mannequins give none either.
- Crops only give Herbalism XP when fully grown.
- Acrobatics only pays once for falling in the same spot, and there's a short cooldown between falls.
- Fishing in the same spot over and over stops paying; move around.
All the weapon skills (Swords, Axes, Maces, Spears, Archery, Crossbows, Tridents and Unarmed) and Taming's wolves use the same formula:
XP = damage dealt × the mob's multiplier × 10
- Damage dealt is the health the mob actually lost, up to 100 per hit. Killing a zombie (20 health) with a sword always pays 20 × 2 × 10 = 400 XP in total, however many hits it takes. Finishing off a mob that something else already hurt pays only for the health it had left.
- Archery and Crossbows get a distance bonus of up to 2.25× (see their pages).
- Taming wolves earn 3× the normal amount for their owner.
- Players are worth damage × 20, like a mob with a multiplier of 2. PvP XP can be turned off by the server.

Skills have no level cap unless your server sets one, but almost every ability is maxed out at level 100. The exceptions are the triple-drop abilities, which unlock at level 100 and keep improving until level 1,000:
- Mining: Mother Lode
- Woodcutting: Clean Cuts
- Herbalism: Verdant Bounty
Levels past 100 also keep counting toward your Power Level and leaderboard rank.
Your Power Level is all 19 of your skill levels added together. /rpgpower shows yours, and /rpgtop ranks everyone by it. Each skill has its own leaderboard too: /rpgtop <skill>.
Every super ability lasts 2 seconds + 1 second for every 5 levels, up to 22 seconds at level 100. The default cooldown is 240 seconds (Blast Mining: 60 seconds). See Skills Overview.
When you earn XP, a bar shows your progress in that skill, labeled with its Specialization role, for example Mining (Primary). Change how it behaves with /rpgxpbar.
Servers can turn on Hardcore mode (it's off by default). With it on, you lose a share of your levels when you die, and a player who kills you can steal some of them. Deaths never change your Specializations.
