Repair
Category: Blacksmithing · Command:
/repair· Super ability: None
Repair lets you fix worn gear with its raw materials, at an iron block instead of an anvil. Higher levels restore more durability per material and are more likely to keep your enchantments.
- Place an iron block. This is your Repair anvil.
- Hold the damaged item, with at least one of its repair material in your inventory (for example an iron ingot for iron tools, a diamond for diamond gear).
- Right-click the iron block. If the item is enchanted, the first click shows a warning (see Arcane Forging below); right-click again within a few seconds to go ahead.
Each repair uses one piece of material. Repair Mastery (below) decides how much durability each piece restores.
Enchantments are at risk. Without Arcane Forging, repairing removes every enchantment on the item. See Arcane Forging below before repairing your best gear.
XP depends on how much durability you restore, what the item is, and what it's made of:
XP = share of max durability restored × item multiplier × 1,000 × material multiplier
| Material | Multiplier | Material | Multiplier | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | 0.3 | Wood | 0.6 | |
| Stone | 1.3 | Leather | 1.6 | |
| String | 1.8 | Copper | 2.0 | |
| Iron | 2.5 | Diamond | 5.0 | |
| Netherite | 6.0 | Anything else | 1.5 |
Item multipliers depend on the item. Armor is worth the most, then pickaxes and axes, then swords and hoes, then shovels. Some examples of the XP for restoring an item from broken to full:
| Item | XP for a full repair |
|---|---|
| Leather armor piece | 1,600 |
| Iron sword | 1,250 |
| Iron pickaxe or axe | 2,500 |
| Iron armor piece | 5,000 |
| Diamond pickaxe or axe | 5,000 |
| Diamond armor piece | 30,000 |
| Netherite armor piece | 42,000 |
A repair that restores a third of an item's durability earns a third of that. Items that are almost broken give the most XP per repair.
| Ability | Unlocks | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Repair Mastery | Level 1 | Each material restores more durability: +2% per level, up to +200% (3× the normal amount) at level 100 |
| Super Repair | Level 40 | Chance for a repair to restore double durability. The chance rises to 100% at level 100. |
| Arcane Forging | Level 10 (ranks at 10, 25, 35, 50, 65, 75, 85, 100) | Chance to keep enchantments when you repair (see below) |
Each enchantment on the item gets two rolls when you repair it:
- Keep: if it succeeds, the enchantment stays. If it fails, the enchantment is removed.
- Downgrade: if the enchantment stayed, this roll decides whether it drops one level.
| Rank | Level | Keep chance | Downgrade chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | 10% | 75% |
| 2 | 25 | 20% | 50% |
| 3 | 35 | 30% | 40% |
| 4 | 50 | 40% | 30% |
| 5 | 65 | 50% | 25% |
| 6 | 75 | 50% | 20% |
| 7 | 85 | 60% | 15% |
| 8 | 100 | 60% | 10% |
Even at level 100, each enchantment has only a 60% chance to survive a repair. For heavily enchanted gear, an anvil or Mending may be the safer choice.
- Repair when items are nearly broken: you get the most durability and XP out of each material.
- Offer repairs to other players. Repair XP comes from restoring durability, so everyone's worn gear is XP for you.
- Repair is in Blacksmithing with Salvage. See Chainmail Mastery for Blacksmithing's passive.
